In fact, according to an article in “Forbes,” Wonder Woman is the third most popular idea (per search results from Bing) for a costume. This is partly because she’s already one of the most prominent female superheroes, and has a pretty cool outfit (though it varies depending on which comic or other appearance of the character serves as your inspiration). Wonder Woman offers up the perfect combination of sexy and strong for women on Halloween—not to mention those dressing the part get to carry around fun props.
But looking at the character beyond the context of Halloween, we’re already beginning to see Wonder Woman emerging in pop culture, even though the character isn’t due for a solo film for a couple more years. The main example is with video games.
A standalone Wonder Woman console game doesn’t exist yet—and there may never be one, given that efforts for superhero machines have largely struggled, with the exception of a few Batman and Spider-Man games. However, the Amazonian princess has made her presence known in a few popular selections. The Injustice: Gods Among Us game, which has both a console and mobile app version, includes Wonder Woman within a large cast of DC Comics characters. Furthermore, the character also has her own online slot machine game, which Gala Bingo describes as “5 reels and 50 paylines of sheer fun,” complete with an “Ares bonus” in which Wonder Woman must fend off a plague of zombies. These games invoke the spirit of the character in different ways—Injustice through her image and fighting capabilities, and the slot game through her back story and historic comic atmosphere.
As if this isn’t enough—the Halloween costumes and gaming options—there’s her actual debut in film to consider. News is pouring out of the Warner Bros. and DC camps regarding actress Gal Gadot and her upcoming portrayal of Wonder Woman, which will be seen in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. KpopStarz recently revealed the character has already been immortalized as a DC collectible statue in advance of the film, even though she’ll be in a supporting role. Details are also starting to emerge about the follow-up Wonder Woman solo movie. MoviePilot suggests it will set up the whole Justice League story arc that will follow, essentially as DC’s answer to The Avengers.
Add it all up and there are clear indications that Gal Gadot’s face is about to become as big a symbol of the superhero cinema fad as we’ve seen in recent years. Wonder Woman is spreading throughout various branches of pop culture, and her films haven’t even debuted yet. It looks like we’re finally about to have the prominent, mainstream female hero many have been waiting for.
