Air Date: Sunday, May 6, 2012, 9/8c on AMC
RATING:
“That drawing was packed away. This was a message. Whoever did this knows things about me.” – Sarah Linden
So the ominous smoking character in the car is revealed, though we don’t know who he is, only what he looks like. If this mystery man is supposed to be a threat, I think he should be taken seriously. Linden (Mirielle Enos) can’t afford to let anything get in her way but she’s treading on thin ice with the Larsen case. Day twenty begins with smiles, breakfast burritos, and butterflies. Too bad it doesn’t end on such a happy note.
Observations and thoughts:
Holder (Joel Kinnaman) cooks? And it’s breakfast? There’s a lot about him we still don’t know and I like the mystery that surrounds him. Family man Holder is someone you want on your side. He’s great with kids, knows his way around a kitchen, and doesn’t have trouble getting dirty when necessary.
Gwen (Kristin Lehman) is coming out swinging. I love that she’s back in Councilman Richmond’s (Billy Campbell) corner, but can he really trust her motives for helping him? Let’s not forget she left the councilman without a word right after he was shot. Why is she back now? Does she feel obligated to help him since Jamie’s (Eric Ladin) still around?
Stan (Brent Saxton) has a sweet moment remembering Rosie (Katie Findlay) and it breaks my heart. I’m sure he’s wondering if Rosie found out he wasn’t her real father just before she was killed. To know she may have died feeling like her family wasn’t her family, or that she was betrayed by those she loved, will weigh heavily on his conscience. His only consolation is never knowing because Rosie can’t tell him. What a tough situation to be in.
I’m getting pissed at Linden because her mothering skills are lacking. “Yeah, I hear there’s a 12-Step program for shitty moms like me.” Keeping Jack (Liam James) out of school and living in motels is not ideal. It’s obvious Jack is miserable, Linden is paranoid, and their mother/son relationship is shitty at best. There’s a reason the poor kid would rather be around his father or Holder. At least he doesn’t have to deal with them being psychotic and running to a new place every other day. And after all the precautions Linden takes to be sure Jack is safe, why the hell does he open the door for child protective services?
What’s with the Pez dispenser? Holder’s got a love for candy now? Is it helping him keep his ‘cravings’ under wraps? I’m still not sure how he’s staying clean but I’m glad he’s doing it. Even after all he’s done for Linden, she still knows where to hit him where it hurts. “You talk to your sponsor lately? You might want to give him a call, make sure you don’t go off the rails again.” She’s being a bitch because it sucks when someone calls you out and you can’t handle the truth.
“Anything can happen on this land, detective. You’ve been warned.” I would say so. Nicole Jackson (Claudia Ferri) is not messing around and doesn’t take kindly to strangers coming onto her land. She runs the casino, but according to Linden, she’s more of a mobster type. Linden doesn’t know what she’s getting into snooping around on the island where it’s obvious Seattle police don’t have any jurisdiction. Is she trying to get herself killed? It would be nice if she cared enough about her partner to have his back a little better. Way to throw Holder under the bus, Linden.
The scene between Stan and Terry (Jamie Anne Allman) is telling. Allman digs deep to show her character’s fear and regret. Though I can’t say Stan buys Terry’s remorse for getting Rosie caught up in Beau Soliel. It doesn’t matter how she found out, the simple fact is she did and Terry had something to do with it. I’m telling you, Aunt Terry knows more than she’s saying about what Rosie was into.
What did you think about Stan offering up a reward for Rosie’s killer? His unshed tears and heartfelt words went straight to my heart. Do you think they’ll make an impact? Will we finally start getting some answers?
Memorable lines:
Holder: “So what you’re the Ghost Whisperer now?”
**
Gwen: “I told you I’d win this race, I didn’t tell you how.”
**
Jamie: “He’s a grieving wreck; a real Debbie Downer.”
**
Stan: “Nobody cares about my daughter anymore.”
Richmond: “Then make them. Make them care about her.”
**
Councilman Richmond really is a stand-up guy (no pun intended). He goes to Stan and is probably the only person who truly cares about what happened to Rosie. I’m curious to see how his involvement and Stan’s reward offer will affect the case. Because the way I see it, Linden is about to be in way over her head.

Oy! Thanks so much for catching that. I fixed it. I know it’s Seattle and I’m not sure why I wrote Portland. LOL! Thanks again.
