RATING:
“You know she spent a month in a psych ward? Completely lost it working on a case.” – Lt. Erik Carlson
There are so many secrets surrounding Rosie Larsen’s murder that I can’t keep count. Not only do we still not know much about Rosie (Katie Findlay), we don’t know what the hell’s going on in this murder investigation. Add to that Linden (Mirielle Enos) becoming just as obsessed with this case as a prior one, which landed her in a psych ward. Obsession can be dangerous and I think we’re going to be first hand witnesses. How far is Linden willing to go to capture a killer?
Observations and thoughts:
I’m beginning to wonder if Lt. Erik Carlson (Mark Moses) has some stake in having the Larsen case thrown out. He goes against Linden at every turn, not giving her the proper support she needs. It’s obvious he doesn’t want her on the case and he’s made sure Holder (Joel Kinnaman) knows the case is off limits to him too. Just how extensive is the cover-up behind this murder? I’d love to know what Rosie was into and there has to be someone who can shed some light on this mystery.
“You’re still my BFF.” To me, Holder forgiving Linden for leaving him in the lurch is a sure sign things between them are back on the up-and-up. But Holder continues to stick his neck out for Linden; will she return the favor? Will she realize she can’t run around willy-nilly expecting no consequences for her actions? Holder always ends up in a sticky situation or getting his ass kicked because he’s out doing the dirty work Linden pushes off on him. But things change when Linden reaches the elusive 10th floor in the Wapi Eagle Casino. “Why would Rosie come up here?” That’s not the only question I have about this whole casino business, and I still don’t get why the FBI hasn’t been called in yet.
So Mitch (Michelle Forbes) was on a quest to find her baby daddy, David Rainer (actor not credited). Maybe that isn’t the only thing she was after when she left her family without a word. But does she think she’ll learn more about her daughter by re-tracing Rosie’s steps? The whole situation is interesting since Mitch had no idea Rosie knew about her biological father. But why doesn’t Mitch tell David Rosie’s his daughter? And how does he not know Rosie was murdered? Has this guy been living under a rock or something? You’d think a story like that would have hit the national news circuit. I’m not buying his cluelessness, unless there’s something else going on here that the writers are waiting to reveal.
Councilman Richmond (Billy Campbell) finally asks the question that’s been on my mind for the past few weeks: “I’m gonna lose this thing, aren’t I?” Strangely enough, I don’t think he’ll lose; I don’t think it’ll be an easy win for him though. While I think he’s been cleared of having anything to do with Rosie or her murder, I’m not sure about the other politicians in this game.
What’s left to say after Gwen (Kristin Lehman) confronts Lesley Adams (Tom Butler) and tries to blackmail him? I sure didn’t see that coming. She gets the shock of her life and I’m flabbergasted. “Did you think your father didn’t know?” There’s definitely more to Gwen’s past than I would have suspected and I’m curious to know how it has shaped her life. I kind of feel like I have to take back all the bad things I said about her now that she’s putting her neck out there for Richmond. She’s tougher than I thought and doesn’t back down easily. So how will this thing with Adams work out for her? Will she approach her father and cut ties with him, or will she try something else to get Adams to do what she wants?
Every time I turn around it seems Stan (Brent Saxton) is handed the short end of the stick. He can’t hold things together because he doesn’t even have himself together. Now his son Tommy (Evan Bird) is acting out and it appears things are going to get even rougher for the Larsen family. “I’ve got too much going on in my life to deal with your bullshit.” Looks like Mitch knew what was coming and cut out just in time to avoid a massive blow-up. It hurts to see this family falling apart though. There has to be something that can be done to bring them some semblance of peace. Between Rosie’s murder and all the secrets that are coming out, I have no idea what that could be. Something needs to change for the Larsens.
Memorable lines:
Richmond: “Chief Jackson does what’s best for Chief Jackson.”
**
Holder: “The Larsen case files, Linden. They’re gone.”
**
Tommy Larsen: “Everybody leaves, and now you want to go.”
**
My nerves are frayed after watching Linden’s exploration of a potential lead in Rosie’s murder. The way Linden fumbles a keycard—which could be the big ticket item she needs—about kills me. I wanted to scream at the television but kept my composure. It’s just a show, right? Of course, I knew she wouldn’t be able to get it so we could uncover an important piece of information about what happened to Rosie, and now it seems we’ll never know. But, it’s this ending that leaves me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next episode!
