Air Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012, 8/7c on The CW
RATING:
“This is my brother’s blood on my hands, Stefan.” – Elena Gilbert
What an interesting opening scene! I do enjoy a good haunting, especially when it moves a plot point along. When I think of all the fun things that can be done with this storyline, it gives me hope that The Vampire Diaries is heading in the right direction. Connor (Todd Williams) just won’t leave Elena (Nina Dobrev) alone, even in death. The interesting thing is he seems a more formidable foe now that he’s no longer in the flesh. So how will Elena rid herself of her own Casper the unfriendly ghost? I’d like to think things won’t go easily for her, but I know better.
Observations and thoughts:
“For 52 years, 4 months and 9 days…” Yeah, I don’t think Elena could survive being haunted for that long. She can barely stand biting a human to feed, which less than a minute. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is trying to help but it seems the Salvatore brothers aren’t interested in his interference. Just when will these guys realize Klaus knows more than they do? I’m growing tired of Klaus being the outcast. He’s one of the characters I look forward to seeing every week.
I can’t get over the huge difference between Dobrev’s performances as Katherine and Elena. As Katharine, Dobrev shines but as Elena, she wilts like a cut flower. The sassiness of one character doesn’t carry over to the other, but I would expect Dobrev to have a bit more passion when she’s portraying Elena. I’d much rather see her as Katharine. I get tired of watching Elena run her hands through her hair to show her exasperation. And I really can’t take Elena’s whiny voice when she’s feeling overwhelmed. Why doesn’t she try something different? Be strong, stand up for yourself, yell! Elena tends to take the easy way out by huddling in a corner, and waiting for her knight in shining armor to rescue her. It gets boring and I’m already at the point where I can only stand to watch Elena on screen for 30 seconds at a time. After that, my patience wanes and I want to throw things at my television.
Who is Silas and when will he show up? If Professor Shane (David Alpay) wants Bonnie (Kat Graham) to raise him, I’m all for it. I’d love that. Bring more fresh meat to the table. Could he possibly be an immortal who may not be a vampire? Will we have to wait until the final episode of the season to learn more about him or worse yet, until next season? My interest is definitely piqued and I’m hoping the Professor will give us more info before long.
Thank goodness the chemistry between Klaus and Caroline (Candice Accola) is still there! It’s bad of me to say this, but I think I’d like to see them together (again). As much as I love Caroline and Tyler (Michael Trevino) as an item, their flame has flickered to a tiny spark. There is heat between Klaus and Caroline and its smoldering. All they need is a little more oxygen to stoke their fire and we’ll finally see some passion on this show. Come on, we all know Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is going to do her damnedest to break up Caroline and Tyler. Once she does, I’d like to see Caroline happy, and who better to do that than the man vampire who adores her the most? I’m not the only one who thinks they make a good match, writers. As an aside, I hope Accola gets more of a prominent role in upcoming episodes. She’s being seriously underutilized this season.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is his usual charming self but he surprises me. He almost gives in to his feelings and opens up to Elena. Could this be the beginning of something new between the two? But now that Elena has admitted her ‘change of heart’ to Stefan (Paul Wesley), where will that leave them? Is the dreaded love triangle finally over? Can I rejoice and hope Damon will finally get the girl? My magic 8 ball says yes!
If April (guest star Grace Phipps) asks about Rebekah’s (Clair Holt) whereabouts one more time, I’m going to think her brain is broken. Has she been compelled so much that her short-term memory is compromised? Is she beyond the help of Vervain? I’m worried she’s going to turn into a broken record and Matt (Zach Roerig) will keep giving her the stink eye whenever she comes around.
Memorable and funny lines:
Stefan: “You’re using your calm voice today. Who’s getting killed?”
Klaus: “Not you, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
**
Damon: “How does Klaus know anything? The guy’s like a billion years old.”
**
Bonnie: “You need to kill a vampire.”
Jeremy: “Alright, great. Give me a stake and I’ll kill Damon right now.”
Damon: “Easy, Van Helsing.”
**
An intriguing episode, “We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes” alludes to things to come. A new relationship brewing, trouble in paradise and a possible new foe on the horizon? I’m looking forward to whatever comes, but do we really have to wait? Two-week hiatus, folks. Happy Thanksgiving!
