“…Warehouse 13 is reaching the end of its tenure.” – Mrs. Frederic
The day has come…the warehouse is no more and I’m thoroughly saddened by it. “Endless” marks the series finale of Warehouse 13 and after five years of hunting artifacts and going on exciting, and sometimes scary, adventures with our beloved agents, it’s bittersweet.
Time Capsule
Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) informs Pete (Eddie McClintock), Myka (Joanne Kelly), Claudia (Allison Scagliotti), Jinks (Aaron Ashmore), and Artie (Saul Rubinek) that Warehouse 13 is reaching the end of its run and they must all “contribute to the time capsule.” This doesn’t sit well, especially with Pete. The raw emotion emanating from him as he argues with Mrs. Frederic strikes a nerve for the loyal fans of this series. To avert disaster, Claudia volunteers to go first. As she places her hand on the “round table,” (the same one from Camelot), the artifact shows her defining moment as a warehouse agent.
Many of the “defining moments” are scenes we’ve never seen before, at least none I can recall. Regardless, each person has a unique moment solidifying their place in the warehouse. I enjoyed Claudia’s because everyone tap dances, thanks to Pete pushing a button. “Well, I…I’m sorry; I see a button and I have to push it. It’s who I am.” Of course it is, Pete, that’s why we adore you. This tap dance flashback is special for Claudia – it not only marks her place in the warehouse but also reveals her disinterest in being the new caretaker. GASP! But, Destiny never takes a back seat. That’s why it’s referred to as “what will be, will be.” And, in the end, when all is said and done and everyone has their turn at the time capsule, we see a very dominating looking Claudia with her hair swept up ála Mrs. Fredric, minus the braids, checking in on new warehouse agents decades later.
Love Will Out
My resistance to Myka and Pete getting together isn’t because I don’t think they belong together; rather, it’s because their relationship has not been portrayed as a romantic one for the last five years. There’s always been some implied tension between the two but I always thought of them more as siblings than lovers. In “Endless,” when Myka shares her defining moment, that’s when we see the love connection.
As Pete desperately looks for a way to stop the warehouse from being moved, Myka finds him, plants a kiss on him, taking him by surprise, and then says those three little words, “I love you.” The kiss is a bit awkward but in a very Myka/Pete sort of way. And it wouldn’t be complete without Pete saying, “So, when do we get naked?”
The banter between them, after professing their mutual love for one another, is cute.
Pete: “Oh, after five years, I probably should tell you the whole punching thing…really turns me on.”
Myka (whispering): “I know.”
Pete (pleasantly surprised, whispers): “Naughty.”
Tender Moments
The cast and crew of Warehouse 13 have been very vocal about their adoration, mutual respect for one another, and their love of the show. It is easily seen in several scenes throughout “Endless.” It starts with Pete getting upset when he finds out they have to contribute to the time capsule. But, when Artie is on his Segway, rolling through the aisles of the warehouse, stopping to fix a crooked artifact display, he goes off on a tangent that brings tears to my eyes. Even Jinks gets a bit teary eyed in another scene, making me even more emotional, and then Pete…damn you, Pete. He has multiple defining moments and gives a beautiful speech that makes me break down.
I’d like to thank the writers for making it a male dominated weep fest. The gals are emotional but it’s great to see a grown man cry.
The End
As series finales go, Warehouse 13 does its best to leave its fans with a sincere and heartfelt episode, showing us they are just as heartbroken as we are about the show ending. Pete and Myka are together at last, and we even get a glimpse of our fallen B&B caretaker Leena (Genelle Williams) in Mrs. Frederic’s flashback where Leena predicts her death in the warehouse. Of course, fans are treated to the effervescence of gone, but not forgotten, 18th century agent H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray) as she battles against Jack the Ripper (Anthony Gerbrandt) back in the day. While fans would love to have more episodes, this is a fitting end to a wonderful series.
I will miss you Warehouse 13. Thank you to executive producer Jack Kenny, for five great seasons…even though this final season was abbreviated. Great cameo in “Endless,” by the way. I hope to see all of these wonderful actors on new shows in the near future; plus, I know Jack Kenny will be writing something wonderful soon.
