“Yes. I’m afraid Benedict Valda’s actions may have set certain events into motion.” – Mrs. Frederic

[warning]WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED YET![/warning]

With the series finale looming, I anticipated this penultimate episode, “Cangku Shisi,” to be a bit more…more, you know? While an element of despair courses throughout the episode as Benedict Valda (guest star Mark Sheppard) tries to steal the warehouse right from under our beloved agents’ feet—and seemingly does a great job at it—I don’t worry too much because for some reason, I know the warehouse is not going to end up in China. Or so I thought.

Sister Act

Benedict Valda is such a good adversary for the warehouse agents…he’s not as diabolical as Paracelsus, but he’s just as wicked.

Benedict kidnaps Claudia’s (Allison Scagliotti) sister Claire (guest star Chryssie Whitehead) to help him steal the warehouse. He’s using Claire in more ways than one: her kinetic energy—which is still there because of her connection with the music box—and because she’s Claudia’s sister. After all, the new warehouse will need a new caretaker, right? Thankfully, Claire isn’t completely under Benedict’s control and Claudia is able to reach her inner mind before she kills all of them. And how do you think Claudia is able to breach the wall – by singing their favorite song, “When I Grow Up,” by Garbage. A little cheesy, but apropos.

Save the Warehouse

Artie (Saul Rubinek) and Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) do everything they can inside Warehouse 13 to stop the compass from transporting the warehouse artifacts to the new location in China, but that’s easier said than done. The antics and banter between Artie and Jinks is amusing; I’m not used to seeing these two working so closely together. And Artie may still have a little freezer burn on the brain after being frozen solid for a few minutes.

Is It Love?

Pete is fumbling over himself trying to not be in love with Myka…but clearly, he is.

Pete (Eddie McClintock) is acting strangely; well, stranger than normal. He’s antsy about being alone with Myka (Joanne Kelly), especially after last week’s episode, “Savage Seduction,” when his ex-girlfriend Kelly (Paula Garces) tells him he’s in love with Myka. Throughout “Cangku Shisi,” it’s obvious Pete is uncomfortable with the idea of being in love with his partner of five years but when he asks Jinks, a human lie detector, if he’s lying when he says, “I’m in love with Myka Bering,” Jinks gasps because he knows Pete isn’t lying. So what does this mean for Pete and Myka? With the warehouse still in danger and the season finale next week, will we see these two finally come together?

Random Thoughts

  • Guest star Mark Sheppard does the most he can with his villainous role. His guest appearance is far too short and I know, if given a longer season, Sheppard’s character could have been a real adversary for our agents.

  • Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) makes a brief appearance via the Farnsworth telecommunication device, saying the events Benedict set in motion may be beyond her control to stop. We all know what that means. As much as we hate this, we have to say goodbye to the warehouse and our beloved agents.

Overall

“Cangku Shisi” isn’t the exciting penultimate episode I was hoping for but it pushes us into the inevitable – the warehouse doors are closing…for good this time. It also opens a door that perhaps should not have been pushed ajar at all – the Pete and Myka love story. Why tease us with their romance only to end the show forever?

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
