Wonder Con 2017
MIDNIGHT, TEXAS Press Room Interviews
Anaheim Convention Center
Saturday, April 1, 2017
If you’re wondering why it’s taken me over three months to post this video, it’s because the cast and series creator/EP Monica Owusu-Breen revealed a plethora of spoilers. One interesting factoid is what Owusu-Breen mentioned during her interview about the show. While it is based on Charlaine Harris’ books, “Midnight, Texas Series,” the show doesn’t follow the books verbatim, although the characters, town, and essence of what is presented in the books are captured in the television series.
In my nervous excitement, my question to Breen about Midnight, Texas being on NBC didn’t come out exactly as I had intended in my head. There is strong sexuality and violence on the show and I am thrilled NBC isn’t pulling away from pushing the envelope on the types of shows they air. In my head, my question was meant to be more inquisitive. I wanted to know if Breen sought out other networks for this adaptation to explore more of what the show has to offer in terms of the sexuality, etc. After all, NBC doesn’t exactly spring off the top of my head as the leader in “sex, violence, and magic” as much as other networks like HBO, Showtime, FX, etc., do. At any rate, the answers Breen provides are more than satisfactory.
Wonder Con 2017 was covered head to toe with banners and photos dedicated to NBC’s newest paranormal series Midnight, Texas. The series centers on the small, quirky town of the same name where those who are…different, for lack of a better word, are welcome. The word ‘different’ encompasses all variations of its meaning from being human to not so human. In the town of Midnight, vampires, witches, were-creatures, and more mingle among the human population. The tight knit community is fiercely dedicated to preserving the sanctity of what Midnight stands for – a haven for the supernatural and their friends.
I’m so excited for this series. With the recent end of Grimm, Sleepy Hollow, and my beloved series Penny Dreadful, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for my supernatural fix. Now, after viewing the first two episodes of Midnight, Texas, I am looking forward to seeing more of what this new series has to offer.
In the press room, in round table style interviews, were the following cast members, as well as Owusu-Breen:
- François Arnaud – “Manfred”
- Dylan Bruce – “Bobo”
- Parisa Fitz-Henley – “Fiji”
- Arielle Kebbel – “Olivia”
- Jason Lewis – “Joe”
- Sarah Ramos – “Creek”
I desperately wanted to see Peter Mensah, who plays Vampire Lem in the series, but sadly, he was not available. Also, I would not want to get on Olivia’s bad side…I made a comment to Kebbel about her character’s fierce need to protect the ones she cares about, “Nothing says love like a bullet.” Kebbel also picks up my mini microphone*, too! There are several funny moments during the press room interviews, but also during the panel and screening prior, a comment was made about Jason Lewis’ shirtless scene and how his “nipples” were “diamond” hard because it was so cold during shooting.
During round tables, there are groups of 4-6 press outlets per table asking questions. The questions asked in the interviews are my own and those of other media outlets. Without further ado, here’s the full video of the interviews.
