iZombie Press Room

iZombie quickly became one of my new favorite shows this past spring, and having the opportunity to meet the cast at Wonder Con 2015 back in April was amazing. At that time, the show was in the middle of its first season so going into this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the show had already aired its first season finale, leaving fans wondering how things will play out in the upcoming second season. Normally, talking to executive producers is either informative and fun or painstakingly brutal. I absolutely adore Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggerio-Wright, both of whom are also writers on iZombie. Their fun chemistry and collaborative friendship lend to the smart, sarcastic, and entertaining dialogue the cast of the show gets to act out each week.
Of course, talking to the cast is always fun and they all seem to be having a blast working on iZombie. If you aren’t familiar with the show, it’s based on a series of DC comics of the same name. On the show, Olivia (Liv) Moore (Rose McIver), a young medical student, accidentally gets scratched at a lakeside party and becomes a zombie – a brain eating zombie, to be precise. In order to keep some semblance of her humanity and not turn into a mindless zombie, Liv must eat brains. Cut to her job in the morgue where fresh brains are readily available. She’s also broken off her engagement to Major Lilywhite (Robert Buckley), an extremely nice guy who also happens to be really hot. Obviously, she must keep her zombie-ness a secret. The only person who knows about her affliction is Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), her boss at the morgue. The unique thing about the iZombie zombies is whenever they eat brains, they get visions from the life of the person they are eating. Working in the morgue allows Liv to help the police solve the mysteries behind the deaths of the victims.
I truly adore the cast but admittedly, my favorite is David Anders, who plays the duplicitous Blaine DeBeers, also a zombie – the one who actually turned Liv. Many of you may know Anders from his stint on another series on The CW, The Vampire Diaries, or as Dr. Whale on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. For me, though, I lovingly refer to him as Sark, aka Julian Sark, on ABC’s hit series Alias. I love the way Anders explains Blaine’s dichotomy. “…you want to punch him, you wanna kill this guy, but you kinda wanna go have a beer with him.”
McIver is such a sweetheart and I mentioned a theory of mine to her regarding iZombie’s season finale and the fate of her younger brother Evan (Nick Purcha). You’ll have to watch the video to get the full details.
Also in the video, Goodwin provides quite a funny story about having to eat ‘brains’ for the first time on set. Apparently, his character Babineaux doesn’t really respect other people’s “food space” and is a little “greedy.”
Needless to say, I’m completely addicted to iZombie and very eager for the second season to begin. Thomas and Ruggiero-Wright, along with some of the cast — Rose McIver, David Anders, Rahul Kohli, and Malcolm Goodwin — also talk about what we can expect in season two.
