Round table interviews with Sleepy Hollow
One of my favorite television genres is supernatural type shows. Sleepy Hollow blends elements of the supernatural with generous leniency with historical events. If you’ve missed any episodes of Sleepy Hollow this season, all I can say is catch up quick. This season is much darker and pits our two witnesses, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie), against even more ominous foes. We also learn a lot more about their history as witnesses and how far back their ties go.
Having the opportunity to speak with some of the Sleepy Hollow cast at this year’s WonderCon was a treat and this year I got to speak to Nikki Reed, Jessica Camacho, executive producer Clifton Campbell, Zach Appelman, and Lyndie Greenwood. These cast members were optimal as each of their story arcs are quite interesting and three of them are new(er) to this third season. Nikki Reed, who plays the iconic Betsy Ross, and Jessica Camacho, who plays FBI Agent Sophie Foster, are both new characters this season; Zach Appelman returns as Joe Corbin and spreads his proverbial wings when he gets more involved in the supernatural realm that Ichabod, Abbie, and Jenny have all been immersed in. Appelman’s character Joe also explores a new relationship with Greenwood’s closed off Jenny Mills.
Reed’s character Betsy Ross is famous for sewing the first American flag, but in the episode “Dawn’s Early Light,” we discovered there is more to the flag than meets the eye. And if you thought the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” was just lyrics written during the middle of a fire fight, you’re sadly mistaken. Well, at least the writers of Sleepy Hollow would have you believe it’s much more than it is. These writers are quite clever.
As the interviews progress, Camacho talks about her character Sophie’s pseudo obsession with the paranormal since her parents’ disappearance; EP Campbell talks about the evolution of the story arc for season three in regards to the introduction of Pandora and the Hidden One and the seven tribulations discussed in season one; and Appelman and Greenwood talk about getting information “script by script” and that the relationship between Joe and Jenny was an “unexpected treat.” Greenwood describes Jenny as “a tough nut to crack,” and Appelman laughs in agreement. Greenwood also talks about the Mills sister’s father coming back into the picture and that she’s “really excited” for fans to see what’s coming ahead. I mention my thoughts on Ezra Mills’ (James McDaniel) knowledge on what really happened to Jenny and Abbie’s mother to which Greenwood responded, “he knows more about a lot of stuff…” We saw a bit of this in the “Delaware” episode that aired on April 1, 2016, so it’s going to be very interesting to see how all this plays out for the remaining episodes this season.
There is so much more revealed in the video interviews so please check out the full video below with plenty of juicy tidbits for what’s coming up in the rest of season three.
