San Diego Comic-Con 2015
The Player Press Room
Thursday, July 9, 2015
To kick off my SDCC experience, my first press room was NBC’s newest series The Player. Premiering this fall, there wasn’t much revealed about the show prior to Comic-Con aside from a few trailers. But as I watched the trailers, I became increasingly intrigued. Yes, the fact that Philip Winchester was running around in just his boxer shorts did aide in my curiosity, but he’s not just a pretty face…and hot body…he’s a terrific actor and quite athletic. Did I mention he’s hot? All of that and he’s a nice guy too, it’s like finding a unicorn; simply magical.
The other huge draw for me was Wesley Snipes. We all know he’s a bad-ass actor whose done a ton of films (hello, he’s Blade!) but to see a big movie star like Snipes do a television series always surprises me. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked anymore because of the shift of major film stars coming to television—case in point – Halle Berry on CBS’ series Extant.
Winchester was simply awesome and friendly during our interview. I’ve been a fan of his since Crusoe. I loved him on Camelot, which only aired one season on Starz. Of course, many fans know him from the action packed series Strike Back on Cinemax. Winchester plays Alex Kane on The Player.
Admittedly, I thought I would swoon more over Winchester (and I did swoon) but when Snipes sat down right next to me—instead of the designated chair across from me—I nearly lost my proverbial shit. He’s Wesley Friggin Snipes! BLADE, people! (Blade sat right next to me.) I kept my fangirling under control and was able to ask my question. Snipes gives a very animated interview – you’ll just have to watch to see for yourself. He plays the pit boss Mr. Johnson on The Player.
Here is a synopsis from The Player:
From the executive producers of The Blacklist comes the action-packed Las Vegas-set thriller The Player. The series co-stars Wesley Snipes as a pit boss and Charity Wakefield as the dealer for a high-stakes game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on the ability of former military operative turned security expert Philip Winchester (Strike Back, Fringe) to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out. Can he take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true what they say: The house always wins.
