Being an avid fan of the popular Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling, the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, is bittersweet. As much as I am ecstatically anxious to watch the film, a part of me doesn’t want to because I know it’s the last time I’ll be able to watch Harry, Ron, Hermoine, and the rest of the cast as one unit and I’d prefer to prolong the ending. In the beginning, I read the books with my daughter but after reading the first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” I found myself so enchanted with the fantastic descriptive writing, I couldn’t help myself. I voraciously devoured each book, salivating with each turn of the page, eagerly wanting to know who Nicholas Flammel was (book 1), what creature lie in the Chamber of Secrets (book 2), why did Sirius Black escape from Azkaban (book 3), who put Harry’s name into the Goblet of Fire (book 4), what hidden weapon within the Ministry of Magic does Voldemort want (book 5), and will all the memories Professor Dumbledore collected help Harry find the missing Horcruxes (book 6). Of course, if you’ve read the books and/or watched the films, you know Professor Dumbledore died in the sixth book, “ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” However, if you haven’t read the seventh book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the reason Professor Snape killed Dumbledore will be revealed and it will give you a whole new perspective on the way you’ve viewed him. Snape’s motivation and subsequent actions are devastatingly beautiful and hauntingly courageous. If you have the chance, read the book before part two of the film is released next week on Friday, July 15th. While the final film has proven to be more true to the books, there are always small, yet wonderful, details that are left out due to production timing and costs.
As an appetizer before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II opens next week, Larry King sat down with some of the stars to talk about their experiences throughout the last decade while filming.
Larry King sits down with the stars of Harry Potter: The Final Chapter for a special interview and never-before-seen footage from the film on CNN July 10th at 8pm ET. Everyone’s favorites- Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermoine Grainger), Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) will all be a part of the show. They’ll be premiering never before seen footage from the film as well as a tour of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter led by the Weasley Twins Fred and George (James and Oliver Phelps) and an exclusive behind the scenes tour with the special effects team who bring our magical world to life.
