            In a series of intimate portraits, THE OUT LIST explores lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender identity. Through thoughtful stories of love, loss, trial and triumph, a diverse group of trailblazing individuals share insights into what it means to be out in their lives, community and country.

 

From award-winning photographer and director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, THE OUT LIST presents compelling first-hand accounts spanning a wide range of topics, from marriage equality and religion to culture, family and politics, when it debuts THURSDAY, JUNE 27 (9:30-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Marking LGBT Pride Month, the film debuts in conjunction with the 44th anniversary the 1969 Stonewall Riots, widely considered the official start of the gay rights movement.

Alternately humorous and poignant, THE OUT LIST features a diverse cross-section of accomplished leaders from entertainment, business, sports and public service sharing intimate stories on childhood, understanding gender and sexuality, building careers while out and reflecting on the challenges still facing the LGBT community. Against the backdrop of historic Supreme Court hearings on same-sex marriage and financial equality, subjects recall joyous moments of acceptance and romance, along with painful instances of intolerance and discrimination, offering unique modern perspectives on being out in America.

 

Subjects featured in THE OUT LIST:

 

Dustin Lance Black is a screenwriter, producer, director, and social activist. He won an Academy Award® and two WGA Awards for the feature film “Milk,” a biopic of the late civil rights activist Harvey Milk.

 

Lady Bunny is a promoter, DJ and legendary drag queen. She is a founder of Wigstock and currently serves as the Dean of Drag on the TV series “RuPaul’s Drag U.”

 

R. Clark Cooper is former executive director of Log Cabin Republicans. He received several appointments in the George W. Bush administration and served in Iraq as an officer in the United States Army Reserve.

 

Wade Davis is a former professional football player and NFL Europe Champion. He is assistant director of Job Readiness at the Hetrick-Martin Institute in New York.

 

Ellen DeGeneres is a stand-up comedian, actress and host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Winner of 20 Emmy® Awards, she was named as one of Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women and Entertainment Weekly‘s 50 Most Powerful Entertainers. DeGeneres is married to actress Portia de Rossi.

Twiggy Pucci Garcon is a ballroom performer and founder of the Kiki Scene’s House of Pucci. He is a community health specialist at FACES NY, the oldest minority-run HIV and AIDS nonprofit in Harlem.

 

Neil Patrick Harris stars in the hit series “How I Met Your Mother,” and has won two Emmys®. He was one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2010 and has two children with his partner, David Burtka.

 

Larry Kramer is a co-founder of the groundbreaking LGBT organizations Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP. A respected playwright and author, he has received two Obies and an Academy Award® nomination, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

 

Janet Mock is a writer, transgender rights advocate and former staff editor of People magazine’s website. She now creates transgender-specific programs and education for the LGBTQ youth center of the Hetrick-Martin Institute.

 

Cynthia Nixon has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Emmy® Awards, a Tony Award, a Grammy Award and a GLAAD Media Award. She is best known for playing Miranda on the hit HBO series “Sex and the City.”

 

Suze Orman is a finance author and host of “The Suze Orman Show.” A New York Times bestselling writer, she was recently named one of the Top 10 Most Influential Celebrities by Forbes.

 

Christine Quinn, the first female and first openly gay speaker of the New York City Council, is currently a Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City.

 

Jake Shears is lead vocalist of the Grammy-nominated pop group Scissor Sisters. The band has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Elton John and Kylie Minogue.

 

Wanda Sykes, a stand-up comedian and actress, headlined two HBO comedy specials and has had a recurring role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” She won an Emmy® and an American Comedy Award, and was named one of the 25 Funniest People in America by Entertainment Weekly.

 

Lupe Valdez is the first female, Latina and lesbian sheriff of Dallas County, Texas. Prior to her 30-year career in law enforcement, she was a captain in the United States Army.

 

Wazina Zondon is a Muslim-identified Afghan woman. She teaches sex education and speaks about the intersection of homophobia and Islamophobia.

 

Over the past ten years, celebrated portrait photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders has forged a successful second career directing and producing documentaries, including the HBO presentations “About Face: Supermodels Then and Now,” “The Latino List” and “The Black List,” and their sequels.
