Congratulations to Showtime for all the amazing nominations. Although, I had high hopes for more nominations for the cast and series creator/writer of Penny Dreadful. Maybe next year…

LOS ANGELES – July 16, 2015 – This morning, SHOWTIME was recognized with the most lead performer series nominations of any network or streaming service, and as the only network or streaming service to have lead actor and actress nominations in both comedy and drama – honored with Primetime Emmy Award nominations for eight out of its 10 eligible original series. Continuing to dominate in the actor categories, SHOWTIME received 10 actor nominations including HOMELAND’s Claire Danes, RAY DONOVAN’s Liev Schreiber, and guest starring nods for MASTERS OF SEX’s Beau Bridges and Allison Janney, HOMELAND’s F. Murray Abraham and SHAMELESS’ Joan Cusack. For the second year in a row, SHOWTIME has the most lead actor comedy contenders – with nominee incumbents HOUSE OF LIES’ Don Cheadle, EPISODES’ Matt LeBlanc and SHAMELESS’ William H. Macy. NURSE JACKIE’s Edie Falco received her sixth nomination for the series’ final season. This is Falco’s 13th Emmy nomination and 12th in the lead actress category, now tying as the most nominated Lead Actress series performer in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
In an unprecedented move, HOMELAND returned to the Outstanding Drama Series category, which the series won in its freshman season and was nominated in 2013. Claire Danes received her fifth Emmy nomination for Lead Actress for Drama Series. Danes previously won two Emmys for her acclaimed role as “Carrie Mathison.” F. Murray Abraham received his first ever Emmy nomination for Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Lesli Linka Glatter was recognized with her third Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for episode 406, “From A To B And Back Again,” the only female directing contender in her category. The series also received its fourth nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour).
Liev Schreiber was honored with his first series Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his lead role on the hit series RAY DONOVAN. The critically-acclaimed drama series Masters of Sex saw guest stars Beau Bridges and Allison Janney honored for the second consecutive year for their roles as “Barton and Margaret Scully.” Today’s nominations mark Bridges’ sixteenth Emmy nomination and Janney’s ninth and tenth nominations (she was also nominated today for CBS’ Mom). Janney took home two Emmys last year for her roles in both series. Masters of Sex also garnered a nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period Program (One Hour or More) for Michael Wylie, Elizabeth H. Gray, and Halina Siwolop. RAY DONOVAN and MASTERS OF SEX airs Sundays starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
SHAMELESS’ William H. Macy is two for two since the series’ comedy category switch, receiving his second consecutive Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nomination. This is Macy’s eleventh nomination overall. Joan Cusack received her fifth consecutive Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress for her role as “Sheila Jackson.”
Don Cheadle was once again recognized for his role as “Marty Kaan” in HOUSE OF LIES, his eighth Emmy nomination, and fourth consecutive nomination for the series. Also nominated for the fourth consecutive time in the lead comedy actor category was EPISODES’ Matt LeBlanc, for his critically-acclaimed work playing a fictional version of himself. Today’s nomination is LeBlanc’s seventh overall.
Psychological thriller PENNY DREADFUL’s freshman season received three Emmy nominations this morning, including Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or a Special for artists Nick Dudman, Sarita Allison and Barney Nikolic, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) for Abel Korzeniowski, and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
