DISCOVERY CHANNEL SERIES ‘TREASURE QUEST: SNAKE ISLAND’ RETURNS FOR SECOND SEASON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4 AT 10PM ET/PT
Real-Life Treasure Hunters Resume Quest for Gold in the Perilous Paraguayan Jungle
(Los Angeles) – After a death-defying expedition on Brazil’s deadly Snake Island, a group of real-life treasure hunters continue their quest for the Treasure of the Trinity, a legendary hoard of Inca gold worth nearly $400 million. At the end of last season, team leaders Jeremy Whalen and Cork Graham solved a critical clue on Snake Island that indicated the treasure was hidden in the depths of the treacherous Paraguayan jungle. Confident they’ve honed in on the exact location, the explorers go all out in pursuit of the ultimate fortune in the second season of TREASURE QUEST: SNAKE ISLAND premiering Friday, November 4, at 10 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.
This season, the treasure hunters depart Snake Island and continue their journey into the deepest recesses of the South American mainland to unearth priceless Inca artifacts that are part of the Treasure of the Trinity. With the elusive bounty at their fingertips, they must first survive the punishing terrain of the Atlantic Forest and the treacherous waters of the Parana River. Battling jaguars, pit vipers and venomous insects on land and piranhas, caiman and raging currents in the water, the expedition faces continuous setbacks.
Pushed to their emotional and physical limits, the team begins to wonder if the treasure is cursed due to its tangled and bloody history. The Jesuits and Guarani, custodians of the original loot through the 1700s, were continuously relocating the precious riches. In order to solve crucial historical clues, the team must design ingenious contraptions, deploy state of the art treasure hunting tools and lean on local intel. The more they follow the ancient trail of blood, the deeper they head into the most remote and dangerous parts of South America. In this uncharted realm, the team’s odds of tracking down the priceless treasure are greater than ever before. But their chances of surviving the quest unscathed are next to none.
The group of treasure hunters include:
Jeremy Whalen, Expedition Leader: Jeremy’s vast experience, deep knowledge of South American history and natural audacity have propelled him to the leadership role for this grueling expedition. Jeremy is a veteran treasure hunter but tracking down the legendary Treasure of the Trinity has become the most challenging mission of his life.
Cork Graham, Expedition Leader: Cork has dedicated his life to searching for lost treasure. At the age of 18, he participated in a covert search for Captain Kidd’s treasure off the coast of Vietnam but was captured and accused of being a spy. He is now focused on the Treasure of the Trinity and determined that it will not escape his grasp.
Mehgan Heaney-Grier, Expedition Dive Master: Mehgan is an accomplished athlete, stunt diver, marine conservationist, and certified Divemaster. She has spent her lifetime perfecting the art of working well under pressure and has the experience, confidence and knowhow to tackle any challenge that comes her way. For her, the monetary value of the Treasure of the Trinity pales in comparison to its historical and archeological significance.
Keith “Cappy” Plaskett, Boat Captain: Cappy has had a long, illustrious career in the armed forces, having served in many wars, including Vietnam and Iraq. Besides his military background, Cappy also has a great deal of experience with underwater excavations and archeology. It is his ability to handle extremely treacherous conditions and his passion for locating and preserving lost antiques that convinced him to sign up for this dangerous treasure hunt.
Brett Tutor, Survival Expert: The newest member of the team, Brett has led adventure missions all around the globe, from African deserts to Amazonian jungles. Though Brett had no treasure-hunting experience prior to this mission, he has officially caught the gold bug. Tracking down the Treasure of the Trinity is one of the most adrenalized and dangerous expeditions he has ever been on.
Emilio White, Naturalist: Emilio is an Argentinian naturalist and environmental educator. He believes the hunt for the Treasure of the Trinity to be a transformative experience, sending him places he never knew existed and teaching him more about his country’s history than ever before.
