TV Clip and Synopsis of Lifetime’s Remake of the Iconic Film, Beaches, Premiering January 21

Who doesn’t remember the 1998 Oscar- nominated film Beaches starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey? They were two young kids, polar opposites, who met on a beach in Atlantic City and kept in touch through letters for a number of years until Hillary (Hershey), a successful lawyer, moved to New York to stay with struggling singer CC (Midler). The movie showed the various stages of their friendship and their romances, including their love for the same man. And let’s not forget the Grammy award-winning song “Wind Beneath My Wings” that Midler belted out in the movie. Well, if you were buried under a rock, or are too young to have seen the iconic film, now’s your chance—sort of.

Beaches is directed by Emmy® Award nominee, Allison Anders. It features new takes on the classic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love,” and includes several other songs recorded specifically for the movie. In this remake, Beaches follows the serendipitous meeting of two young girls on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on an unexpected and lifelong friendship. CC (Menzel) is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles until she is discovered by a director who gives her her first big shot. Hillary (Long) is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny. Their friendship—even with its ups and downs—sustains them for decades.

Here’s a clip to whet your appetites.

Beaches premieres Saturday, January 21 at 8:00 pm ET/PT, only on Lifetime.
