“Her future husband awaits her on the top of the mountain. He is a monster whom neither Gods nor men can resist.”— Grimm
NBC recently announced webisodes of its hit series Grimm would be available on nbc.com, supposedly to tide fans over until the series returns following the Olympics. The first installment, however, “Love Is In the Air: Elegant Endeavors” falls a little flat. It’s 6:53 minutes long and would have fared better had it lasted ten minutes. By adding some extra hijinks into the mystery of the hour…minutes…whatever, the webisode would have probably been a bit more entertaining and suspenseful.
Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) is hosting an “Elegant Endeavors” party in her home for woman to purchase intimate items from the sales rep. Interestingly, the items are somewhat tame, ranging from cozy, fuzzy slippers to foot baths but the twist is the sales rep is a young man instead of a woman. As Mr. Elegant Endeavors comes bearing gifts, is he also hiding a dark secret?
When Juliette spots a toad jumping around in her kitchen, Rosalee (Bree Turner) immediately recognizes it as a specific delicacy for Ziegevolks – goat like Wesen who eat toads to increase their pheromones to either persuade or invoke specific reactions in their victims. Could our salesman be using his powers of persuasion to get these ladies to buy more products? Or is something else afoot?
I love Grimm; I adore both Tulloch and Turner on the show, but this webisode is not quite what I expected. I appreciated the use of the Wesen we’ve seen in the past, but haven’t seen recently. If you recall, we met a Ziegevolk in season 1 in the “Lonely Hearts” episode, and then again in season two during “One Angry Fuchsbau.” The acting in “Love Is In the Air: Elegant Endeavors” seems off as though everyone is trying too hard to be just a bunch of girls having a fun party. Even the comment Juliette makes to one of her guests is a bit condescending and judgmental. The writers could have done so much more with this meager script and the actresses could have done a lot better at pretending they were having fun. If this is what’s supposed to tide me over, I’ll be on hands and knees begging NBC to bring Grimm back sooner!
Grimm will return with all new episodes February 28. So, what did you think about “Love Is In the Air: Elegant Endeavors?” Leave me a comment below or tweet me at @judybopp. Looking forward to hearing from you!
