The Tomorrow People: “Kill Switch” Review. How Times Have Changed…

“Jodi’s death is on the Founder; the next one’s on us.” – Russell

The Tomorrow People has turned into a comic. There’s a villain, a hero (or three), and more than enough drama for your mama. I liked the soundtrack, special effects, and revealing moments *spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched the episode yet*. Oh, and the ending of “Kill Switch” is quite exciting. Although I wasn’t surprised by anything, I hope next week’s finale delivers some serious punch.

Stephen has hard times ahead of him.

Evolution

I’m not sure I understand the unrest going on amongst the Tomorrow People (TP). I’m out of the loop a bit because I missed a few episodes but it seems their world has gone topsy turvy in a matter of days. No one really has the role of leader anymore. The return of their long sought “messiah” Roger’s (Jeffrey Pierce) has caused nothing but trouble. TP are revealing themselves to humans left and right. So what’s going on with the TP? Why have they fallen into hard times when peace is supposed to be their only concern? So many things have changed making me question the future of the TP. The group is falling apart and the outspoken know-it-alls want to step forward to run things. Maybe the group would be better if there was no one in charge. Maybe they’ve evolved into a single organism capable of surviving without a strict set of rules. It’ll be interesting to see how the group functions from this point forward.

Random Thoughts:

Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) is crazy as a fox and still as wily as one. The man is not to be trusted as far as I’m concerned. He appears to want to be the good guy but shows his true colors in the end. So now we know his true motivation behind his unwavering pursuit of the TP. A scientist to the core, Jed wants to be one of the gang.

Not to ignore everything else that’s going on in the TP world but Stephen (Robbie Amell) and Cara (Peyton List) are now free. Will they find their way back to one another or will they continue to ignore their feelings? They have a connection that is stronger than anything either of them has experienced. The writers have kept the two apart for long enough; I’d like to see what type of relationship could develop between them. They need each other.

I don’t like this girl Natalie. Not one bit.

Russell (Aaron Yoo) doesn’t utter more than one funny line during “Kill Switch.” What a change for him. I bet Yoo was dying to unleash some bit of comedy during this heavily laden dramatic episode. “Have you seen her eat with a fork and knife? No way I’m letting Irene cut open my nugget.” If Russell can’t be funny, what other reason is there to keep him around? I guess he’s a number two but when it comes down to it Russell is no leader. He has too big a heart to be as ruthless as someone in charge needs to be at times.

I don’t know about you but I’ve been waiting for Astrid (Madeleine Mantock) and John to act on their mutual attraction. Oh yeah, the sexual tension has been building and I know they were feeling it. Good to see Astrid is finally over Stephen, and that she can possibly find some peace and love with a guy who sees her for her.

Memorable lines:

Russell: “The Founder can’t be trusted.”

Natalie (Levin Rambin): “Yeah, but Roger can?”

Irene (Laura Wiggins): “I think it’s a good thing to have a heart, even for a scientist.”

Roger to the TP: “We can’t let the Founder turn us into killers.”

John: “Take me topside.”

Cara: “Why?”

John: “Astrid’s all alone up there. That’s no way to die.”

Cara isn’t the leader the TP need. Will Stephen step up to take on the role?

I’m excited about next week’s finale. I can’t say I’ve felt too much excitement about The Tomorrow People for a while now so I like the way things have been shaken up. I think I’ll go catch up on what I’ve missed now that I see how things have turned out. Stephen, Roger, John, and Jedikiah all have new lives to lead. How will the changes bombarding them shape what’s next on their paths?
