Season 3, Episode 10
Air date: Monday, March 25, 2013, 10/9c, on Syfy
Rating:
With The Dawning now behind Bo (Anna Silk), when will her dark side fully emerge? Her ebullience—not a typical Bo trait—is evident to the team, and I think Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) wonders if this is the aftereffects from The Dawning. For now, though, she can’t worry, because Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) has an investigation for both ladies. First things first.
The color red plays a dominant role throughout “Delinquents”: Bo wears a red negligee, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) wears a red button down blouse, and Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) wears a really low-cut red shirt. Red, being an intense color that elicits strong emotions, especially love, is meant to symbolize the feelings these three women have for each other (well, except for Lauren and Tamsin but the common denominator here is Bo). And we all know black is Bo’s favorite color so seeing her in such a vibrant hue is meant as a signal that intense feelings will come to the forefront, and possibly a surprising event.
Now we know the real reason Tamsin is even in town. With the appearance of Acacia (a fine guest turn by Linda Hamilton), Tamsin’s mentor, we learn Tamsin was tasked to capture Bo for The Wanderer. This has been her duty all along, but it’s now made more difficult with her newfound fondness for Bo. When she refuses to betray Bo, Tamsin is gifted with Acacia’s severed hand. Too bad this is what it takes to steel Tamsin’s resolve to complete the job at hand.
Well, Tamsin is a naughty girl, isn’t she? What was her goal in telling Lauren she kissed Bo?
Tamsin: “Is this about the kiss between Bo and I?”
Lauren: “What?”
Tamsin: “Because it was only that once. It wasn’t really that big a deal. She didn’t even feed off of me.”
First of all, Tamsin lies when she says Bo didn’t feed off her. Interesting she didn’t tell Lauren about that incident. We know how sensitive Lauren is, so what does she do—tells Bo she needs to take a break. Really? Lauren told Bo before she understood Bo would need to have her hunger satiated by others so why is Tamsin any different? No matter, because I actually felt sorry for Lauren. Broken heart and all that; who hasn’t suffered with one? Bo’s clearly broken-hearted, too, and Silk’s plaintive “This is just a break, right?” is ace. She got the emotion just right.
But this serves to give us an endearing scene with Dyson and Lauren at The Dal, where Lauren goes to nurse her wounded heart. When this happens:
Lauren: “How could I ever get over her?”
Dyson: “I’ll let you know.”
It’s evident Dyson is nursing a broken heart, too. When he calls for a round, I think this is the moment when Lauren realizes Dyson has her back. Why does it take her so long to realize these things? For someone who’s extraordinarily brilliant, she’s pretty dumb in matters of the heart.
Aside from the rather silly investigation of a murder at a youth camp, and the appearance of a Tikbalang, a Fae forest creature, “Delinquents” moves the relationships among the team forward, and now that season three is winding down in less than a month, it’ll be interesting to see just how dark Bo goes. I’m anticipating a blast of a finale!
