“And that’s your excuse for a six-month long pity party?  – Duke Croker

After Nathan (Lucas Bryant) shot Agent Howard (Maurice Dean Wint) in the season three finale, “Thanks for the Memories,” it set off a chain of events leading to not only “the troubles” not disappearing but actually increasing, and forcing Nathan to flee his hometown to seek refuge from the embittered Guard – one in particular. Care to venture a guess? I’ll give you a hint – her touch is paralyzing and painful.

Haven - S4 Ep 01 - FALLOUT

Bullet Magnet Dwight (Adam Copeland) goes to Nathan’s (Lucas Bryant) defense as The Guard corners him after he rolls back into town after being gone for six months.

“Fallout” takes us on a wild and stormy journey.  So much has changed in the quaint town of Haven, Maine yet, somehow, it seems the same…if that makes sense. People with troubles still come to Haven for assistance but with more and more bizarre troubles manifesting, Dwight (Adam Copeland), the new Haven PD chief, finds himself growing weary of doing double duty as The Cleaner and Chief of Police – trying to clean up and cover up these odd occurrences.  As Bryant mentioned in a conference call on Thursday, September 5, this season will address the still ongoing issue of “gas leaks” in Haven. Seriously, another gas leak? I have to chuckle.

As advertised, Haven returns six months after Duke (Eric Balfour) and Audrey (Emily Rose) go into the barn. However, time passes differently in the barn because what is six months for everyone else feels like only mere minutes for Duke. With a splash, Duke is transported out of the barn into an aquarium in Boston. How or why, no one knows…yet. Now Duke must find his way back to Haven to figure out what happened to Audrey. But Duke won’t be traveling alone. While Duke lies handcuffed in a hospital bed in Boston, Jennifer (Emma Lahana), a strange woman with a unique connection to the barn, pays him a visit. Does anyone else find it curious that the Boston detective interrogating Duke finds multiple IDs in his coat pocket? “Kirk Davis, Matthew Shaw, Calvin Banks…”— I wonder if those names will resurface later this season.

Haven - S4 Ep 01 - FALLOUT

Duke (Eric Balfour) meets Jennifer Mason (Emma Lahana) while in Boston. It seems Jennifer has a strange connection to Haven…especially The Barn.

In addition to meeting Jennifer in “Fallout,” we  are introduced to two more new people, one of whom is Duke’s long lost brother Wade Crocker (Christian Camargo). This is going to be an interesting story to dive into, especially since he has taken over Duke’s bar, The Gull. The other newbie is William (Colin Ferguson), who manages to find Audrey…well, she doesn’t know she’s Audrey since she goes by the name Lexie DeWitt and is a bartender. It’s not clear where Audrey/Lexie is in correlation to Haven but she seems to have been out of the barn a bit longer than Duke. She mentions her “last gig” was “boring” — hmm, I wonder what it was.

Haven - S4 Ep 01 - FALLOUT

Nathan (Lucas Bryant) suspects an old trouble case involving Marion Caldwell (Nicole de Boer) whose trouble involves controlling (or maybe not controlling) the weather.

As “Fallout” plays out, an old case reemerges causing extreme weather to wreak havoc on the citizens of Haven. Meanwhile, William and Lexie contend with a crazed gunman in the bar who isn’t there to rob it…he wants Lexie.

Rose plays Lexie in a completely different manner, so much so you aren’t sure if Audrey is still in there. In the previous three seasons, we have only known Audrey as Lucy and Sarah in the previous lifetimes when she entered the barn. As Duke mentions, perhaps because time works differently in the barn, that’s the reason Audrey doesn’t age like everyone else. However, how different was Audrey from Lucy and Sarah, and can William help Lexie remember who she really is? With Agent Howard seemingly disintegrated at this point, the only other way to stop the troubles for good (“not just for 27 years”) is for Audrey/Lexie to kill the one she loves most. Could Duke be right? Maybe Nathan isn’t Audrey’s “true love” anymore, especially if she can’t remember who she is. It took Audrey Parker nearly two seasons to start having memories and it wasn’t until mid-way through the third season that she found hard answers. I’m definitely excited to see what happens this season. And as Bryant mentioned in that conference call, outsiders come to Haven…and someone in Haven is sending out information about the bizarre happenings in this small New England town. Are these outsiders the Darkside Seekers we’ve been hearing about?

And don’t worry, the lovable Teague Brothers, Dave (Richard Donat) and Vince (John Dunsworth), are still around…being mysterious and devious as usual. Gotta love Haven, right?
