Gamers and horror film lovers have some strong reasons to look forward to Halloween this year. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be released October 26. In addition, the alternate dimensions of Silent Hill will be available for fans to experience during Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights.
Director/writer Michael J. Bassett made the announcement during the film’s San Diego Comic Con panel where he was joined by Adelaide Clemens, one of the film’s stars, and renowned producer Samuel Hadida (Resident Evil, Domino, Good Night, and Good Luck).
During a 30-minute presentation, the audience was treated to a few clips. The first one, a Comic Con exclusive, involved a multi-headed mannequin monster, and the other showed Kit Harington (Games of Thrones) strapped to a surgical table. Sadly, Harington was unable to attend the convention due to a broken ankle – quite a shame because he looks phenomenal in the trailer. Fellow Games of Thrones cast member Sean Bean (also absent), also stars in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, and that prompted Bassett to joke about the strong GoT presence. However, Bassett’s enthusiasm and Clemens’ ability to charm the fans, who consider the Aussie actress a strong Heather Mason, made up for their absences.
The clips left the audience screaming, and all I’m going to say is there sure were a lot of monsters to be had! Speaking of screaming, Clemens showed the Comic Con crowd how well her lungs work by showcasing how well she can scream.
I enjoyed hearing Bassett talk about the project he wrote and directed. His passion and understanding of the material is obvious. Bassett stated he wanted to give the audience a story to hang on to and “characters you care about.” He also focused on the importance of the alternate worlds Heather Mason navigates. “Her environment reflects her emotions,” Basset said.
Bassett told the audience the second installment will be even better than the first film. “It’s my job!”
Fans should also be pleased to learn there was no post-3D work on the film. Bassett admitted he’s not a fan of the format and finds the cameras bulky, although he had a very powerful reason to push it for his film: it provides audiences the ability to get inside a film.
“If there ever was a film to give you an excuse to immerse yourself, it’s Silent Hill,” Hadida added.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is a sequel to the horror film Silent Hill, which is an adaptation of the video game of the same name. The film boasts a great cast, including Radha Mitchell, Carrie-Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell.
