The opening music to “What You Have Left” is not only poignant but soothing. We watch as preparations for Rosie’s (Katie Findlay) funeral are made. I hate funerals. I think everyone does. So why is everyone rushing to this one? I hope you pay attention to those in attendance.
I’m sure I’m not the only person thinking this, but I don’t think we’ll find out who Rosie’s killer is until the final episode. I have no clue anymore. The suspects are all duly suspicious, but do they truly have motives for wanting to do away with Rosie? I’m not sure I understand what her friends have to do with her being killed; I do think Sterling (Kacey Rohl) has an idea of who Rosie was hanging out with. If not, she’s not a true BFF. When I was in high school, my best friend and I told each other everything. That’s what a best friend is for. But the notes from and to Mr. Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren) make me think Rosie was keeping something extremely important from her best friend… and family. Can we all agree to Mr. Ahmed being really frickin’ suspicious? ‘Cause he is. I don’t think he killed Rosie though. If he truly cared for her as he says, he wouldn’t have been able to do such a thing. Or so he (and the writers) would have us believe. Something isn’t right about him and I’d be looking at his wife (Ashley Johnson), more than I would him.
And then I think about Stan (Brent Sexton) and his mysterious—or not so mysterious—past, thanks to Holder’s (Joel Kinnaman) secret rendezvous. But why would anyone kill his daughter and not bother with the rest of the family? There are seven more episodes to go this season, and I’m hoping we get a clearer picture of who we need to pay closer attention to. Then, there’s the revelation that the killer knows what they are doing. This isn’t some accidental murder with subsequent cover-up. Could that mean an officer is involved somehow? Maybe the dark and secretive Detective Holder? Nah. I don’t think so. It has to be someone we’ve seen so far that is close to the family. I’m still not ready to throw out my conspiracy theory yet, but it’ll be interesting to see if I’m right. One theory I’ve seen on the boards for The Killing is quite intriguing. Some viewers believe Linden’s (Mirielle Enos) fiancé Rick Felder (Callum Keith Rennie), may be the killer. What do you think about that?
Again, Linden has Holder doing the grunt work. Is she trying to solve the case alone and wants the glory for finding the killer, or is she trying to keep Holder out of her way so she can work alone, as she’s used to doing? She seems to work better alone and has her own methods for solving a case.
I think it’s safe to rule out Councilman Richmond (Billy Campbell). Having his wife murdered—though we don’t know much about the circumstances of that—I seriously doubt he’d allow something like that to happen right under his nose. Then I consider he had no idea someone was leaking information about his campaign. So who else could be doing something that he is clueless about? And why?
Funny lines:
Holder: “I got you a going away present but I’m saving it for when you actually… go away.”
***
Linden to her son Jack: “Find your new BFF?”
Jack: “No one says that mom; that’s retarded.”
Guess I didn’t get the memo. Oh well… It’s just one of the aspects of the writing which keeps this show in the present day. It feels as if the story isn’t just one I’m watching, but one I’m a part of because it’s occurring right now, for the characters, as well as me. Man do I love this show. It has me second guessing myself from minute to minute and I just can’t get enough of it. Next episode please!
