Denny on a mission for milk money
We’re five days in and still no closer to finding Rosie’s (Katie Findlay) killer. But, suspects are popping out of the woodworks. I have to admit, Mr. Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren) is looking rather suspicious. I don’t know how he would expect Detectives Holder (Joel Kinnaman) or Linden (Mirielle Enos) to buy anything he says, because I sure don’t. He seems nervous and maybe a little defensive. You have to question why. And there are those letters found in Rosie’s room. Makes you wonder just what was in her letters to him.
Now, I’m awfully curious how a child can sneak into his parents’ room, take money from their wallet and walk to the store and back with no one noticing he’s missing. Something isn’t right there. I think Stan (Brent Sexton) and Mitch (Michelle Forbes) are falling behind in their household duties. Denny (Seth Isaac Johnson) does say “they don’t care about us,” and shockingly, it does appear that way. Although I don’t think that’s true, it is an interesting observation from such a young kid. I wonder about the results of a child’s death on the remaining family members. The Killing does an effective job of showing all the different sides relating to a murder and what goes on surrounding it.
The most touching scene in “Super 8” occurs when Mitch is in the supermarket and waves hello to a familiar face. The woman seems to blanch at that acknowledgment and walks away without a word. What I find touching is that Councilman Richmond (Billy Campbell) turns up and speaks to Mitch, telling her things will get better. I like that he does it out of kindness and not for any other reason, which he could have done. He is the only person who knows what the Larsens are experiencing and his reaching out—in the manner he does—shows the compassion he is capable of exhibiting when no one else will. Very nice touch.
Belko, the mysterious friend of Stan Larsen
Jamie Wright (Eric Ladin) perplexes me. He doesn’t drink, which isn’t a strike against him, but it does make you wonder if he had a problem with alcohol at some point in his life. He seems to be a better asset to Richmond than Gwen (Kristin Lehman) though. We still don’t know why she’s sneaking around and I think she is someone to keep an eye on.
Is anyone else weirded out by Belko (Brendan Sexton III)? He rummages through garbage cans, changes pissy sheets… who is this guy? He’s too involved with the family I think. He keeps asking Stan if he wants him to help find out what happened to Rosie. Not to say it isn’t a nice thing for him to do, but repeatedly? No. Something is off here too but not enough for anyone, including the police, to notice. And this may sound bad, so I’ll make it quick—I’ve been waiting for Stan to break down. Mitch has, as have the boys when they realized their sister wasn’t coming back. But Stan has been so strong for the family that I worried he didn’t have a moment to finally grieve for his daughter himself. So when he does finally succumb to his emotions, it pulls at my heartstrings. I feel for the entire Larsen family and I’m pulling for them to get through their ordeal all in one piece.
There are theories floating around about Rosie’s killer and I’m inclined to come up with my own. Though, I don’t know who to point the finger at. Honestly, I think it’s more than one person involved in Rosie’s killing. Finding out who the guilty parties are is the issue. I really enjoyed “Super 8” and it makes me think we actually don’t have a clue about who can be trusted. I am definitely hooked on this show.
