First, I’m tired of the rain. I understand it’s like an extra character, denoting the doom and gloom of the series, but can we have one episode where the day is clear and remains that way? It’s beginning to depress me. Second, I love how each new episode seamlessly continues from the last. Holder (Joel Kinnaman) makes a breakthrough in Rosie’s (Katie Findlay) case. Her face shows up on photos from the casino she’s been frequenting. Not only that, a human skull is found on the waterfront not far from that very casino. Coincidence? That’s one question I cannot wait to have answered.
I kind of feel sorry for Stan (Brent Sexton). He’s the head of his household, the sole breadwinner and his family—among others—depends on him. So, of course he would take matters into his own hands and do what he thinks is best. It has led him to jail but we know it’s not the first time he’s been there. The thing is, I understand he felt the need to do something. He had Mitch (Michelle Forbes) riding him about not dealing with Bennet Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren), the supposed murderer of their daughter. The pressure finally got to him and he snapped. Now he’s getting the cold shoulder? I don’t think Mitch is being fair to her husband—after all, she’s the one who pushed him into almost committing a murder. I’m glad he doesn’t take Mitch’s scolding lying down. He doesn’t deserve it.
“The only reason I’m in here and you’re out there is because I had the balls to admit what I did.” Not only is Stan right in saying this, it leaves Mitch speechless. I only hope she thinks about his words and exactly how much power she wields over husband.
The lack of communication between these characters is astounding. Because Stan didn’t get the chance to tell Mitch about the house he’d bought, she now thinks he’s slime. Oy! If only she’d stop being so angry at the world and listen for once. I get that she’s still hurting but she needs her husband. They need to work together to have some semblance of a calm existence. At the rate they’re going, they won’t be married for much longer. And where will that leave them?
Ah… the pieces of the puzzle are slowly starting to fall into place. I’m even more wary of Terry (Jamie Anne Allman) now that we’ve discovered the account Rosie was depositing money into has Terry’s name on it. Or is shared by her. Or something. And she loaned Rosie her ID so she could get into the casino. Okay, so maybe I’m not entirely clear on Terry’s part in corrupting Rosie, but I’m sure she has some part in it. I thought their similarity in looks was important. What else has Terry allowed Rosie to use her ID for? There is definitely more going on here than meets the eye.
I’ve got a really bad feeling. “Beau Soleil” is not only the title of the episode, but the name of an escort service Terry is involved with. And who happens to be a customer of this service? None other than our friendly Councilman Richmond (Billy Campbell). Well color me stupefied. He’s harboring the most secrets of anyone. I was ready to clear him of any and all wrong doing, until “Beau Soleil” shed light on his character. He’s a liar and possibly a creep. But guess what? Linden (Mirielle Enos) and Holder both know. They won’t let him get away with anything now.
I enjoyed this episode, although it seemed to be going nowhere during some scenes. Eventually, it makes up for the lack of speed in getting to its point during the hour with a shocking ending. I’m beginning to think Rosie’s killer is someone we have seen. And he’s a powerful man. Only time will tell if my guess is correct. The Killing will undoubtedly have the most exciting season finale of the year and I hope you don’t miss it. I know I won’t.
Tune in to the season finale of The Killing, Sunday, June 19th at 10/9c on AMC. For more on the show, visit http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-killing.
