Temperatures may be dropping in Minneapolis but libidos are heating up! From the homeless guy (Ben Sinclair) using the expensive gloves Cathy (Laura Linney) donates to warm up more than his hands to Dr. Atticus Sherman (guest star Alan Alda) hungrily munching on his wife Gia’s (guest star Laura Benanti) cannoli, “Fight or Flight” definitely channels some strong sexual overtones…I wonder if the writer was going through a dry spell? (LOL!)
Why doesn’t Cathy just say no to Gia’s dinner invitation? Sure, Dr. Sherman’s trials are curing her cancer but that doesn’t mean she’s obligated to socialize. Cathy’s insurance pays for the trials – they aren’t free! I mean, when the dinner invitation is preceded with a comment on how orally experienced Dr. Sherman is…seriously? Cathy and Gia literally met five seconds ago – at a high school swim meet, no less. Neither Cathy nor I need to know Dr. Sherman is an experienced ‘muff’ diver. LOL! I’m no prude but jumping in head first is not recommended if you’re not sure how deep the pool is. I didn’t even have my floaties on. (all puns intended)
Lee (Hugh Dancy) refuses to take the plane ticket to Germany Cathy gifts him to go for more invasive clinical trials. He says he’s at peace with dying but it’s obvious he’s not. Why train for a marathon if you’re so ready to die? He says he’s trying to live his life but I don’t buy it. After all he’s gone through to survive, he’s giving up now? I hope Cathy can talk sense into him before it becomes too late.
Cathy finds Paul’s (Oliver Platt) stash of cash in the Cheetos® can but he’s too hopped up on cocaine Myk (Boyd Holbrook) gave him to let it faze him. Mistakes happen when you’re high as a kite and forget to pack your parachute. Here I thought Myk is a nice Ukrainian boy who digs plus-sized women but when he asks Andrea (Gabourey Sidibe) to marry him – two words pop into my mind – Green. Card. I just hope Andrea can keep her focus and not fall too head over heels because I smell disaster coming. And I don’t like the favoritism Cathy shows Andrea when she’s late with her history paper. If it were another student, would she give the same extension?
It sounds so funny when Cathy reminisces about some of Sean’s (John Hickey) favorite places to urinate as if it were comforting nostalgia. Meanwhile, Adam (Gabriel Basso) circles the neighborhood plastering missing person posters of Sean everywhere. I think Adam has really grown throughout this second season. Admittedly, I didn’t like him in season one and there are a few moments in this season that give me pause. However, he’s really beginning to understand what it means to have a family, especially after he thinks his Uncle Sean is the dead homeless guy who froze to death.
Memorable lines:
Myk to Andrea when he proposes – “You have my sack of nuts; you take my heart.”
When the homeless guy begins jerking off with his new gloves – Cathy: “Aw, come on! Those gloves are from Patagonia!”
Lee to Cathy about going to dinner at Dr. Sherman’s – “You enjoy eating in with a doctor who likes to eat – out. J-just keep your legs crossed.”
Gia: “Attie can never get enough of my cannoli.”
Dr. Sherman: “Mm, I can eat it all day.”
Is it wrong that I’m slightly aroused? (giggle)
