Now this is the New Girl I know and love. What a great episode! I totally think Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) are going to hookup. I keep seeing these looks pass between them and they do have chemistry. Might be a little foreshadowing at least. Nick grows up a bit in “Wedding” and we have to wait until next week to find out how his new stance in life will pan out. I think he can succeed at being single—truly single.
Weddings are supposed to be fun and this one looks like a blast. There’s a dance-off, an awkward moment where Jess totally ruins the happy couple’s introduction, and of course, Gretchen (guest star Natasha Lyonne of American Pie fame), who has a thing for Schmidt (Max Greenfield). Speaking of Schmidt, I’d love to hear more about his younger days. “Fat Schmidt” explains a lot. Now I know why he always pulls up his shirt to show everyone his abs.
Observations:
Schmidt is still a douche. But he’s coming around. It seems to me Greenfield is overacting a bit. If he relaxed, he could do great things with his character aside from making him a douche.
Winston (Lamorne Morris) has endeared himself to me. He is so sweet with Jess and absolutely hilarious during the dance-off with the alternate usher. He made the kid go running for his mommy!
Deschanel rocks this episode. Seeing her in the bathroom wielding a cake knife to remove her undergarments is ridiculously funny. I laughed so hard I couldn’t hear what was going on. Though I have to admit, at times, she seems a bit overdramatic with some scenes. I sometimes feel she’s trying to portray Jess as something she isn’t—an idiot.
Funny lines:
Winston in response to Schmidt about his urgency to be an usher: “This is the first job I had in like two months dude and I really want to get in there and ush this wedding in the face!”
**
Jess after revealing her beauty secret of wearing little girls’ biker shorts under her dress: “I will not be peeing tonight.”
**
Jess to Nick with her fake ‘billy teeth: “I just done what my momma learnt me.”
**
If New Girl continues at this pace, the show will make it to the top. Drunken Nick needs to make an appearance in every episode. His performance is so realistic. I could feel his heartache and the solace the picture booth gives him in his drunken rage. Yes, I think we’ve got a hit on our hands, folks!
