Air Date: Tuesday, December 6, 2011, 9/8c on Fox
RATING:
“Bad in Bed” focuses on Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her lack of confidence in the sexual arena. I’m not sure why she’s so insecure but her hijinks to make sure she’ll perform up to par give me quite a chuckle. Not only does she buy a sexy new outfit (which she can’t figure out how to put on), she asks the guys for advice. You never ask a guy about sex, Jess. *sigh* While it’s not a complicated lesson to learn, Jess doesn’t get it until the end of the episode. Oh, and you have to check out the other place she gets inspiration from—Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) computer. And it isn’t pretty. Actually, it’s kind of freaky. I didn’t know Schmidt was that much of a freak.
Observations:
I don’t think I realized just how childlike Jess is until watching “Bad in Bad.” The poor girl. You’d think Cece (Hannah Simone) could advise her but Jess seems to do better with *ahem* visual aids. It makes me wonder what else she doesn’t know much about and why she didn’t learn anything as a young adult. Did she not talk to her friends or read a book? She’s a teacher for crying out loud!
Nick (Jake Johnson) is afraid to get a haircut because he doesn’t want to talk to the stylist. I can totally empathize with the feeling. Sometimes you just want to get a haircut in silence. The flashback he has seems over the top but it makes me laugh. Just wait until you see the haircut he ends up with and where he gets it. Talk about hilarious! He looks like Vanilla Ice an idiot and the only person to tell him so is Jess. I guess the two of them are just friends. I was really hoping for something more to happen between them, but I’ll admit I like Paul (Justin Long).
Winston (Lamorne Morris) is the voice of reason for Jess when it comes to sex. Why? I don’t know, but apparently he knows more than anyone else in her opinion. She listens to him but only after he says exactly what Nick says. Maybe she’s uncomfortable taking sex advice from Nick because she does (or did) harbor feelings for him? I really want the two of them to just admit their feelings, so yes I’ll be talking about it until it happens.
Funny lines:
Jess to the guys: “So um, heads up Paul’s coming tonight and I just wanted to tell you I’m gonna tap him like a maple tree. I’m gonna be searching for some syrups.”
**
Nick to Schmidt: “Apparently I’m hooking up with the right kind of girl because they don’t choke me.”
**
“Bad in Bed” is funny in its own right, but didn’t get me like last week’s “Bells.” I was happy to see Long back for another go round and wonder if he’ll become a permanent fixture as he and Jess move to the next level in their relationship. Either way, I’m looking forward to more New Girl antics from Jess, Schmidt and Nick.
