Air Date: Sunday, October 16, 2011, 10/9c on HBO
You have to wonder what Ray (Thomas Jane) will reveal during his voice-overs. If you pay attention, he tells us quite a bit through the small clues he drops during his monologues. Tanya (Jane Adams) is right about a few things though, “We are not the FBI, Ray. A woman won’t let me take her picture.” They need a better system and really need to get organized. Ray can’t continue guessing who his client is, going on a mere description of “blonde hair and red mini skirt.” There are a slew of blondes in the world, and how many women own a red mini skirt? But what should he do when one of the women he thinks is a client turns out to be a former student? We learn something about Ray Drecker in this episode—what kind of man he is.
Observations:
Jane and Adams have amazing chemistry. They seem to get better with each passing season and have evolved into an incredible comedic duo. When they argue, it seems genuine, and who doesn’t love a good disagreement between friends? But you know there’s love in the mix and I’m never disappointed to see how much their characters care for one another.
This competition between Ray and Jason (Stephen Amell) is causing tension between Tanya and Ray. I’m not sure how they can come up with a way take Lenore (Rebecca Creskoff) out. While Tanya kicking Lenore’s ass was funny, I think it might be the fuel to the fire which will send Lenore spinning further out of control. She’ll do something even worse to Ray and Tanya. What I think they need to do is bring Jason over to their side. Ray can talk to him—man-whore to man-whore—and sell him on Tanya’s services. What’s the worst that could happen? (Pimp switch!)
Jessica (Anne Heche) having a new job is hilarious. Jessica working at a doctor’s office is gut-busting funny. I know she’s hurting for money but the job doesn’t suit her. It works as a catalyst though to get things out in the open. You know, like her little slip to Matt (Matt Walsh) about his wife Mindy (Amy Farrington) giving her husband Ronnie (Eddie Jemison) a hand-job. Just how clueless is Jessica? I almost feel sorry for her. She seems to have fallen into a rut and can’t get out. And why haven’t we seen anything going on between her and Ray? After last season’s finale, I kind of thought they would be starting a romantic relationship. Guess that’s on the backburner for now.
Funny lines:
Tanya: “Wait? You had sex with a student?”
Ray: “No, no! A former student.”
Tanya: “You had sex with a former student?!”
**
Ray to Tanya about being outed by his former student: “What if she Facebook’s, or Twitter’s, or whatever the hell they do now?”
**
Charlie to Tanya when Ray comes to the door: “You gon’ hide me from your ho?”
**
I think Ray may have found his niche. If one of his former high school students is interested in him, who’s to say there aren’t more? Another solid showing by the writers of Hung. They keep the show fresh, hip and in the now. I always look forward to what’s next in Ray’s life, and yes, Tanya’s too. I think the dynamic duo will come out on top. But they should watch their backs because Lenore is not one to easily forget a wrong done to her.
