“You know you’re living with a pimp, right?” Ray (Thomas Jane) is really not himself after being arrested. I wonder what’s got him all riled up. Oh, right… someone’s stolen his shoebox of money. I have issues with that shoebox because it’s reckless, but I know some people hide their money at home in mattresses, or hidden in cans in the cupboards. Thinking Lenore (Rebecca Creskoff) ripped him off would have been my first thought too, only she’s not that low class. And she would have wanted Ray to know she did it. So who else could it have been, and is this the main focus of Ray’s problems? No. I think he’s still shaken up from his run in with Lydia (Ana Ortiz) and he hasn’t gotten over her antics yet. Heck, I haven’t gotten over them. She’s crazy. Though, maybe not as crazy as the flight attendant Ray has a dalliance with on the plane. Where in the hell does he find these clients?
Observations:
Tanya (Jane Adams) is scatterbrained as usual. She doesn’t have Lenore riding her back anymore, yet she still seems flustered. And again, not listening to Charlie (Lennie James) who advises her even when she doesn’t ask his opinion is a mistake on her part. It’s obvious he knows just what to say to get her going though.
I like Ray’s neighbor Yael (Alanna Ubach). Although, she seems a bit disgruntled. She had a little affair with Ray a while back and now she’s pissed he’s stopped seeing her? I have no idea what her problem is, but she cracks me up with her looks and condescending tone (love her sarcasm) aimed at Ray.
Tanya yells at Ray for keeping his money in a shoebox, yet she keeps hers in a lunchbox. A yellow Wonder Woman lunchbox, for crying out loud! Hilarious! I bet the lunchbox alone is worth some money.
I’m sorry but Ray and Tanya going to Lenore’s apartment and not being able to explain what they want to the woman who answers the door is priceless! I am conflicted though. The stereotype of Chinese women offering massages *wink, wink* isn’t new and mixing it in with the premise of Hung isn’t subtle. I keep thinking the woman is wondering if Lenore is some kind of codeword for ‘happy ending.’
Ray has to be worried Jason (Stephen Amell) will eclipse him and possibly steal his clients. It doesn’t take Ray long to change his mind about working with him though. Jason will do things Ray won’t. Tanya declares, “I mean, he’ll have sex with anyone. He’ll have sex with guys. He’s full service, Jason, he’s good to go.” That has to be the breaking point for Ray. He doesn’t want to be left in the dust.
The twins, Damon (Charlie Sexton) and Darby (Sianoa Smit-McPhee), are really talented. They can sing, and play the drums and guitar. But why does it seem they only write new songs when they’re depressed? I think the poor kids are feeling ignored and need their parents, who both seem to be having mid-life crises.
Funny lines:
Sandee (Analeigh Tipton) to Tanya and Charlie: “Lenore, I mean she’s a bitch. I’m so sorry about my language, but I mean, she is a fucking cunt.”
**
Charlie to Sandee: “Will he do dudes?” [Tanya spits out her tea]
Sandee: “What?”
Charlie: “Your fiancée. Will he fuck men?”
Sandee: “Yes, I think that can be arranged.”
**
Yael to Ray about seeing someone break into his place: “Unh, you had a break in. Low. Maybe it was the lady with the crazy hair who’s always yelling.”
**
Charlie to Ray: “You’re a stubborn middle-aged ho who don’t do dudes.”
**
I am a bit perplexed by the opening of “Money on the Floor”—I keep wondering if the woman sitting next to Ray is going to either pick him up or drug him. But I love that about Hung. Sometimes you just don’t know what you’ll get during an episode and those typically are the best ones.
Tune in to season three of Hung, Sundays at 10:00 PM ET/PT only on HBO. For more on the show, visit http://www.hbo.com/#/hung.
