“We’re back on planet Alison.”– Spencer
Fellow Liars!
ABC Family’s hit TV series, Pretty Little Liars (PLL) is back at it again with a very special ALIVE guest—Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse)! Shame on executive producer I. Marlene King for not realizing we’re not naive enough to believe Alison was really dead. Since she’s back now, has she changed for the better? Or is she going to cause even more trouble and madness than before? Hopefully we will know by the end of the season or perhaps, even sooner. But I think having Alison back in the flesh will bring a whole lot of dynamic into the show.
Going back to the premiere episode of season five, “Escape From New York,” we see Ezra (Ian Harding) is recovering after being shot by “A.” Thank God! Shana (Aeriél Miranda), however, was killed by Aria (Lucy Hale). I’m still surprised she turned the tables on Alison after all she’s done to help her. “Whirly Girly” had me thinking about how PLL will proceed from here on out. Is Alison aka Ali trying to cause trouble again by lying to the police about her story? What is Mona (Janel Parrish) going to do now that her archenemy is back in Rosewood? “You’re gonna wish you stayed dead.” Ouch, Mona! What do you have up your sleeves now? Mona will, most likely, continue being this stiff, unlikeable person who will always and forever hold an intense grudge against Alison and the other girls. I don’t see any truce coming along anytime soon. Mona’s constant personality swings when she’s around the Montgomery siblings are annoying. She’s nice and calm with Mike (Cody Christian) but once he’s out of the room, she shifts completely with Aria. They always have unfriendly confrontations.
It’s good seeing Toby (Keegan Allen) again. Is he growing hotter every season or is it just me? My ultimate one true pair (OTP) in Pretty Little Liars has been the Ezra and Aria aka Ezria, but since that’s been paused for a bit due to some complications, my second favorite OTP is Spencer (Troin Bellisario) and Toby aka Spoby! They are just the cutest, and while One Republic’s new single “Love Runs Out” is playing in the background, they sure do get comfortable with each other. Oooh. As the seasons progressed with Spencer and Toby being together, as well as what they’ve gone through thus far, it’s nice to know the one special person who lights up Spencer’s face from all the drama surrounding A is Toby. It’s like Spencer is waiting for a go sign to just run far away from all this and never look back. Especially in the bed scene when Toby is passionately kissing Spencer’s neck, Spencer says, “Toby next time you’re going to London, you’re taking me with you; we’re never coming back.” You’re not going anywhere just yet Spencer; the girls need you and your brain!
Aria dealing with Shana’s death troubles her in “Whirly Girly”, and I wonder if it will cause her even more despair now that someone else might actually know who killed Shana and why. Aria scares me sometimes. If you haven’t noticed, when she’s mad…she’s really mad. Her big eyes pop like no other and her whole face gets all intense—signs of great acting if you ask me.
With season five now upon us, I think everyone who watches PLL wants to ask that one burning question…“WHO THE HELL IS A?!” Not gonna lie, this plot point has been quite intriguing for the first four seasons but now I think this storyline has been around a little too long for us to keep our patience in check. There are so many twist and turns and question after question. King always says we will get more of our questions answered in each season finale but, of course, we are left with even more questions in the end.
To top this off, there are some emotional scenes in “Whirly Girly.” We see the reactions from the liars’ parents after finding out the big secret their lovely daughters are keeping from them and especially how it affects Spencer’s family. Emily (Shay Mitchell) has a heart-to-heart with Aria reaching out to her about Shana’s death. Oh, and we can’t forget about the most emotional moment of “Whirly Girly” when everyone finds out about Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker)! I wonder what Ali will do now. And poor Jason (Drew Van Acker), just looking at his horrified face was so sad, it made me want to run and give him a big hug! Although I have this little soft spot for him, something tells me there is something fishy going on with him. He pulled a lot of creepy stuff in this episode. Jason, what are you up to? Can’t he just be happy and relieved his sister is alive?
Pretty Little Liars has already been picked up for season six and seven. Two more seasons of nagging questions and endless theories? Uh-oh. I’m still wondering how we will get through season five. I’m both excited and crazily curious about what is to come next. Can’t wait till next week!
