Things definitely come crashing down for James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) in “When I Get Out.” Not only does he find himself in jail for a murder he didn’t commit, despite the compelling evidence against him, he must face the reality of what his life is turning into. He is no longer the man in charge and has no say about what happens to him. That’s a difficult thing to face, especially when you’re the one who’s used to calling the shots. Ghost now has to depend upon others to help him in his time of need — his lawyer Joe Proctor (Jerry Ferrara) to get him out on bail, his wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton) to secure the funds necessary for said bail, and Dre (Rotimi Akinosho), his right-hand man, to run his nightclub Truth. Then, there’s his longtime friend and partner Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) who needs to keep their other business ventures running while keeping an eye on Tasha and the kids, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) and Raina (Donshea Hopkins).

Speaking of Tariq, last we saw him, he was hanging out with Kanan (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson), who wants nothing more than revenge on Ghost and is using the kid as a means to an end. I can’t even begin to imagine what goes through Tasha’s mind when she realizes Tariq is missing after receiving a frightening picture of him. Is Tariq sleeping or is he dead? It’s something no mother ever wants to experience. Let’s not forget, though, both Tasha and Ghost still believe Kanan is dead. I wouldn’t want to be Kanan when Tasha and Ghost find out he’s alive and is acting like some sort of mentor to Tariq. And if they find out Dre has been working with Kanan all along, well, let’s just not even go there!

By the looks on their faces, Angela, Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson), and Sandoval weren’t expecting Mott.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Angela Valdes (Lela Loren) seems to be having second thoughts about being the one who put Ghost in jail. While she says she believes Ghost killed Agent Gregory Knox (Andy Bean), I believe in my heart of hearts, she knows all too well Ghost would never have done that. If that’s so, did she really give Ghost up out of anger over losing him to Tasha? Is this truly an act of revenge or is there some other reason that hasn’t come into play yet? Nonetheless, Angela wants to be included on the team prosecuting Ghost, which is headed up by AUSA Mike Sandoval (David Fumero); that is, until John Mott (Sung Kang), a new hot shot AUSA from the Eastern District, enters the picture. Kang is a great actor and a wonderful addition to the cast, even though I’m not fond of his character. Mott comes across as a know-it-all who’s only out to make a name for himself. Plus, he’s a bit smarmy for my liking. I smell trouble amongst the Feds and can’t wait to see how this all goes down.

Tommy is doing his best to keep the drug business going as he is now the new “connect” and Petar (Aleksander Popovic) is the “distro.” I guess we’ll see what kind of drug kingpin Tommy will be as the season progresses, and whether he’ll be able to keep his new second-in-command Julio (J.R. Ramirez) in line. It looks like something not so nice is brewing between Julio and Dre. Actors Ramirez and Rotimi are extremely talented and both turn in strong performances in “When I Get Out.”

As a matter of fact, Hardwick, Naughton, Loren, Sikora, Jackson, and Ferrara also turn in commanding performances. Hardwick especially so when the prison doors to his cell slam shut behind him. It’s a huge wakeup call for Ghost and Hardwick nails it. With this fourth season of Power dealing with Ghost’s murder trial, Ferrara finally gets a chance to show what he’s made of as Ghost’s attorney; additionally, Naughton gets to shine as the wronged wife who is nevertheless standing by her man, keeping the home fires burning until Ghost gets home. “You and I are in this together.” I loved the showdown scene between Angela and Tasha; these ladies certainly know how to hold their own against each other!

As much as I have loved every season of Power, it looks like the new one is going to be even better. Things are going to happen that no one expects, including some new love interests. Wouldn’t you like to know who they are? It wouldn’t be any fun if I gave that away, now would it? You’ll just have to tune in to the new season of Power Sunday nights at 9:00 pm ET/PT, only on Starz.
