PORTIA DOUBLEDAY AND CARLY CHAIKIN JOIN THE CAST OF USA NETWORK’S CYBER-CRIME PILOT ‘MR. ROBOT’
UNIVERSAL CITY – September 11, 2014 – Portia Doubleday (“Her,” “Carrie”) and Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) have been cast in USA Network’s cyber-crime drama pilot MR. ROBOT. They join previously announced Rami Malek (“24,” “The Pacific”).
Doubleday plays Angela, the pragmatic old childhood friend of Elliot (Malek) and an account executive at the AllSafe Cyber Security firm. She is the one person who Elliot will open up to.
Chaikin will take on the role of Marlene, the chain-smoking striking hipster who also happens to be an expert at writing malicious malware — specifically, dangerous computer worms that take down entire networks.
Doubleday co-starred opposite Chloe Moretz in “Carrie” as bad girl Chris Hargensen and has a cameo opposite Joaquin Phoenix as the sex-surrogate in the Spike Jonze academy award winning film “Her.” Additional credits include a co-starring role on “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” and a recurring role as Matthew Perry’s assistant on the comedy series “Mr. Sunshine.” Doubleday starred in her first leading role opposite Michael Cera in Miguel Arteta’s film “Youth in Revolt,” which was named one of the ten best films of the year by the National Board of Review. She also starred in the AFI short “18,” written and directed by Joy Gohring. Doubleday is represented by Paradigm.
Chaikin most recently starred as Dalia on the comedy series “Suburgatory,” a performance for which she was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for “Best TV Villain” and a Critics’ Choice Television Award for “Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.” Her film credits include “The Last Song.” Chaikin is represented by Paradigm, Berwick & Kovacik and Stone, Meyer.
MR. ROBOT is a culturally resonant drama about a young programmer, Elliot, who suffers from a debilitating anti-social disorder and decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. He wields his skills as a weapon to protect the people that he cares about. Elliot will find himself in the intersection between a cybersecurity firm he works for and the underworld organizations that are recruiting him to bring down corporate America.MR. ROBOT is from Universal Cable Productions and is executive produced by Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”).
In addition to MR. ROBOT, USA Network has announced pilot pick-ups for Carlton Cuse’s COLONYand STANISTAN starring Jennifer Carpenter (“Dexter”).
