Photos & Commentary: The Secret Circle, Season 1, Ep. 109 – “Balcoin” (Mid-Season Finale)

The plot thickens as the circle realizes Jake (guest star Chris Zylka) is a witchhunter and now Cassie (Britt Robertson) is in danger.

As I watched “Balcoin,” I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Jake really delivers a low blow to Cassie when he tells her he’s not interested, but it’s more than obvious that he is. What I don’t really like is the fast progression of his feelings for Cassie as I would have preferred the writers let it evolve a bit slower. His years of hatred for the art of witchcraft and witches alike cannot be washed away so easily, but perhaps Cassie’s kisses are …dare I say it…magical! (haha).

I’m very curious to see what Cassie’s capable of now that she knows she is descended from a long lineage of dark magic. And despite Jake leaving with his witch hunting cronies, I know he’ll be back because he’s already confessed he has feelings for Cassie much to Faye’s (Phoebe Tonkin) chagrin. I don’t think Adam (Thomas Dekker) likes it either but I’m still unsure about Adam and Cassie being destined for each other. 

Looks like Charles (Gale Harold) and Dawn (Natasha Henstridge) didn’t read the fine print in Charles’ Book of Shadows when they cast the memory spell on poor Jane (Ashley Crow). She seems to be having a lot of trouble remembering and keeping facts straight. A part of me thinks she knows something’s amiss but she forgets about it too quickly to do anything about it. I just hope Cassie realizes something is wrong with her grandmother before it’s too late.

This was the mid-season finale; The Secret Circle returns Thursday, Jan. 5,2012 at 9/8c only on The CW.
