For the third year in a row, Hulu has featured an original series in their Super Bowl ad. The 30-second spot aired during the first quarter of Super Bowl LIII and gave viewers a sneak peek into season three of the dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale. Season Three of The Handmaid’s Tale is driven by June’s resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds.

Next stop ahead for Jordan Peele will be THE TWILIGHT ZONE, as host and narrator for the upcoming CBS All Access series, a modern reimagining of the original, which premiered in 1959. The classic role of host and narrator was made famous by creator Rod Serling, who used socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times. THE TWILIGHT ZONE begins production this fall and will premiere on CBS All Access in 2019. Peele also serves as an executive producer.

SHOWTIME has announced that Paco Cabezas (PENNY DREADFUL, The Alienist) is set to direct multiple episodes of PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS, the next chapter of the PENNY DREADFUL saga. Oscar® nominee John Logan, creator, writer and executive producer of the Emmy nominated series PENNY DREADFUL, will continue in those same roles. Production on the drama series is expected to begin later this year. A spiritual descendant of the original PENNY DREADFUL story set in Victorian-era London, the next chapter opens in 1938 Los Angeles; a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. Produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd for BBC AMERICA, “Killing Eve” revolves around Eve (Sandra Oh), an MI6 operative, and psychopath assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) in this story of two women, bound by a mutual obsession and one brutal act. In the second season, the action picks up just 36 seconds after the end of the final episode of season one.

FOX is renewing the new celebrity competition series THE MASKED SINGER, this season’s #1 new series and #1 unscripted show, which captivated a massive audience of more than 17 million multi-platform viewers for its debut episode. Based on an international hit, THE MASKED SINGER features celebrities facing off against one another with one major twist: each singer is shrouded from head to toe in an elaborate costume, complete with full face mask to conceal his or her identity. Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke serve on the panel, playing detective alongside series host Nick Cannon.

Freeform announced that it has signed a script to series deal for “Party Girls,” a half-hour, single-camera dramedy inspired by the true story of Ericka Suzanne, daughter of the first female leader of the Black Panther Party, Elaine Brown. Set in Oakland in the ‘70s, “Party Girls” will follow Ericka’s attempt to survive her adolescence as her mother rises in the Party. The plot explores an unconventional mother-daughter relationship, balancing the stakes of the movement with the humor inherent in coming-of-age, and asking the question how do you rebel when your mom is leading a rebellion?
