Recap/Review: The Real Housewives of New Jersey, S3, E15 – “Black as Ink”

Recap/Review: The Real Housewives of New Jersey, S3, E15 - "Black as Ink" 1

As the drama between Ashley and Jacqueline dies down momentarily, it picks back up between the Giudices and the Gorgas. This time though, it’s the two Joes who are going at it. But let me tell you what’s going on with the rest of the housewives first…

Review: True Blood, S4, E46 – “Burning Down the House”

Review: True Blood, S4, E46 - "Burning Down the House" 2

Honestly, I love the opening action sequence. It’s exciting and makes me think I’m in store for something amazing. Well, “Burning Down the House” is good, but it isn’t amazing. It’s more of the same indescribable confusion that someone *cough* Alan Ball *cough* thinks is funny. Yet, I’m not laughing.

Review: #Haven , Season 2, Ep. 7 "The Tides That Bind" (Real life aqua men?) 3

“The Tides That Bind” bound me to my seat! From the moment the episode starts, with a group of young pre-adolescent boys standing on the edge of a dock staring into the water singing a chilling song, I am beyond curious – I am mesmerized. Along with more questions, I’m also more deeply invested in finding out what is actually going on. If you missed the episode, it was the second Twitter-infused episode – follow @davehaven and @vincehaven .

Review: #WilfredFX , Season 1, Ep. 11 "Doubt" (Butt sniffing and gun slinging!) 4

It looks like Wilfred and Ryan’s relationship isn’t so unique after all. Bruce (guest star Dwight Yoakam) seems to know a lot about Wilfred’s behavior. Bruce asks Ryan how well he really knows Wilfred which makes me wonder – why did Wilfred choose Ryan? Why is Ryan able to see a man in a dog suit while everyone else sees a dog?

Review: Rescue Me, S7, E7 - "Jeter" 6

I am searching for the right words to express my feelings about “Jeter” because I want to do it justice. While it has its share of comedic moments, the drama is what stays in your mind long after the episode is over. “Jeter” is a heavy-hitting, punch-in-the-belly kind of episode that rips your heart open. It brought tears to my eyes, not once, not twice, but three times as I watched this masterpiece unfold before me.

Review: The Big C, Season 2, Ep. 9 "A Little Death" (Nothing soothes grief like an open bar, sushi, and sex) 7

Nothing soothes grief like an open bar, sushi, and sex? And who blasts invites to a funeral via Twitter? Are funerals the new aphrodisiac? Well, if the Max Buy van is a rockin’, don’t come a knockin’! LOL! And are you a KOC?

Review: The Closer, S7, E6 “A Family Affair”

Review: The Closer, S7, E6 "A Family Affair" 8

From comedy to drama, The Closer doesn’t want to fit itself into typical television fare. It breaks out of that mold and creates its own category of entertainment. It’s what I like to call fantastic. Everything about it pulls you in and holds you fast.

Review: The Glades, S2, E11 – “Beached”

Review: The Glades, S2, E11 - "Beached" 11

With only two more episodes left in the season, The Glades starts turning up the Florida heat and taking the relationship they’ve been dangling before us like the proverbial carrot to the next level…or, at least, giving it a legitimate chance to level up. Detective Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore) is a bit cranky about investigating the body of a “well-coiffed executive” found on a popular stretch of beach, but the interruption of his golf game is only partially to blame.

Recap/Review: The Real Housewives of New Jersey, S3, E14 - "Belly Up & Up" 12

Jacqueline and Chris finally come to their senses and throw Ashley out; Kathy throws a sumptuous Middle Eastern-themed tasting party; and Teresa and Joe visit their attorney to hear the judge’s ruling on their bankruptcy. That about sums up “Belly Up & Up,” but let me tell you how it begins.

I don’t know what to say about this episode. It falls flat for me.

Book Review: “The Host” by Stephanie Meyer

Book Review: "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer 14

This book has everything: suspense, mystery, and a love triangle. It made me question decisions I would make, the nature of humanity, and the power of love.

Review: #Haven , Season 2, Ep. 6 "Audrey Parker's Day Off" (Will the day never end?) 15

Haven is fast becoming one of my favorite TV shows. Each week we are presented with a new and interesting affliction which causes even stranger events. “Audrey Parker’s Day Off” is exciting and engrossing. As I watch with eager anticipation of who will die next, I try to figure out the mystery of why the day is repeating. Seeing Audrey’s reactions to each of her friends’ death brings you a little closer to the characters.

Written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia, The Last Circus has received many accolades from media and print reporters alike. According to Variety, “Cult status is assured.” From the Village Voice, “Makes Pan’s Labyrinth look like Sesame Street.”And from Harry Knowles at AICN, “BRILLIANT. A GREAT FILM. A searing, intimate work riffing on Hitchcock, DePalma, Fellini, the Universal Monster films and German Expressionism.” You can’t get higher praise than that. A winner at the 2010 Venice Film Festival, The Last Circus opens at theaters this weekend.

Review: #WilfredFX , Season 1, Ep 10 "Isolation" (Won't you be my neighbor?) 18

Jenna thinks Ryan’s been on vacation because his blinds are closed and she hasn’t seen him in three days. Wilfred seems a bit perturbed by Ryan’s absence, thinking he’s avoiding him. And why does Ryan think he has to impress his neighbors? What’s the moral – be kind to your neighbors because never know when you’ll need them? And don’t get hand-jobs from heroin-addled bums…just don’t… period.

Review: #WilfredFX , Season 1, Ep 9 “Compassion” (“everybody’s a little coo-coo”)

Review: #WilfredFX , Season 1, Ep 9 "Compassion" ("everybody's a little coo-coo") 19

While I enjoyed “Compassion,” it was a bit lackluster for me. I think Mary Steenburgen did a fantastic job of being the kooky mom but overall, the episode had only a few moments of ‘ha ha’ and not the usual ‘LOL! OMG! WTF!’ Of course, this episode has a grander purpose so I’ll excuse the shortage of guffaws.

Review: Rescue Me, S7, E6 – “344”

Review: Rescue Me, S7, E6 - "344" 20

“344” is rife with dramatic dialogue which rivets me to my seat, intently listening to each conversation. While there aren’t as many comedic scenes as usual this week, that’s ok. Rescue Me is, after all, a very dark show. Tommy is extremely affected by a visit to Ground Zero, which manifests itself in several different ways.

Review: The Closer, S7, E6 - "Home Improvement" 23

What an interesting storyline this week. A sex offender is found murdered on a job site. And the laughs just continue on. “Sure you don’t want to just cover him up and call it a day?”
