Review: Grimm, S2, Ep. 206 – “Over My Dead Body”
Air Date: Friday, October 5, 2012 9/8c on NBC.
Rating:
“Whilst he thus gazed before him, he saw a snake creep out of a corner of the vault and approach the dead body.’” —Grimm
After seeing Angelina (guest star Jaime Ray Newman) in the previews, I was kind of hoping for some pig-like creatures; instead we get a vicious looking King Cobra creature known as a Königschlange. Angelina may be a female, but she’s a big, badass Blutbad, making me hope for some semblance of the Three Little Pigs fairy tale. Even though that’s not exactly what happens, “Over My Dead Body” does stir up a heaping pile of trouble, causing Monroe’s (Silas Weir Mitchell) life to hang in the balance.
Observations:
Cpt. Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) receives a call from a beautiful blonde, Mia (guest star Alice Evans), who seems intimately familiar with him. Their conversations regarding Sean taking his “rightful place” raises many questions. Who is she, and why is she in Portland? Could her appearance be linked to the bounty on Monroe’s head? Roiz’s performance sent chills throughout my body when he surprises Mia at the airport. What’s frightening is how he asks her to tell him “everything.” His cool composure hides the beast within. It’s like the calm before the storm. We’ve always seen Sean so poised but I am ready to see him unhinged…and yes, shirtless too.

Nick (David Giuntoli) asks Hank (Russell Hornsby) to stash Monroe until he can find out who wants Monroe dead. I must say, I enjoyed the interaction between Monroe and Hank. Nick has been the common denominator for these two men but now that Hank knows who Nick really is, it’s befitting that Monroe and Hank get to know each other. The transformation demonstration performed over some good scotch is a perfect male bonding exercise. Once again, Mitchell turns in a fantastic performance! His use of dialect, especially when speaking German, as well as his facial expressions, lend realism to his character. I fully expect to find a guy named Monroe who is a whiz with antique clocks living in Portland. And you have to love Hank. He’s trying to understand the world of Grimms and Wesens while maintaining his perspective as a human being and cop.

So, Angelina is the hit woman for hire but she isn’t the first choice for the job. Thanks to her great taste in men, she gets caught up with the wrong guy at the “End Up” bar. Isn’t the name of the bar awesome? I’ve got the perfect slogan: “Who knows where or who you’ll end up with after a trip to the End Up bar.” I digress.
But of course, Angelina has to take the job or be killed herself. I agree with Monroe, she didn’t have to come over, interrupting what would have been romantic evening with Rosalee (Bree Turner), and tell Monroe someone is paying her $25,000 to take him out. With Angelina’s track record, she could have just offed him herself. Off topic, does anyone else think Angelina may be a distant relative to Monroe? I mean, how many Blutbads are there in the world?

Rosalee isn’t the only one having a semi-romantic evening. Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) makes Nick one of his favorite dishes. Not because she remembered, but because she saw “Nick loves” written on a recipe card. Nonetheless, it was a great gesture from her. I’ll admit, I’ve got a sweet spot for Nick and what Juliette did last week kind of peeved me a bit. This little dinner makes up for it in my mind, as well as Nick’s. You can see the love in his eyes and the smile in his heart when Juliette asks about how they met. I thought this episode would be the one in which she regains her memory but it isn’t. Too bad Nick’s recollections don’t help her regain her memories of him.

After seeing the previews for next week, I’m beside myself with delight. Juliette finally remembers Nick but does she remember Sean when she sees him in the precinct? I’ve asked this question many times – what would happen when Sean and Juliette see each other again. How will they react to each other—the kisser and the kissee? I’m ready for the story about Sean’s lineage to progress. Doesn’t anyone find it odd that he wants to keep a Grimm alive? Is it because he respects Nick as a person, or is it simply because of who Nick is?
