AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead cast and executive producer talked to press ahead of their highly-anticipated panel at Comic Con Friday, discussing the show’s recent midseason finale and sharing a sneak peek of the rest of the season.

In the teaser for the remainder of season three, tensions deepen between the Broke Jaw Ranch community and the Black Hat Reservation (The Nation) as people become desperate when resources, like water, run low.

Executive producer Dave Erickson revealed resource allocation would be a continuing theme throughout the season and a strong undercurrent to the darker turn the show will explore. Affected strongly by this is Kim Dickens’ character Madison Clark, the leader of the Broke Jaw Ranch group. A former school counselor, Dickens said her character has shed some of her morality from the first two seasons, instead relying on brutality for survival.

Madison has become more merciless,” said Kim. “Her main goal is to survive and protect her family and now, she realizes it comes at a higher cost.”

Family dynamics and power struggles are also explored according to Sam Underwood, who plays Jake Otto. His character’s relationship with brother Troy is often loyal but tense.

The true is the same for Madison and her kids, Alicia and Nick. In the aftermath of killing and covering up the death of Jeremiah Otto, that might lead to divisions in the family. According to Alycia Debnam-Carey, “[Alicia] feels differently about this than the rest of the family. She is staking out her own path as a result.”

One of the biggest discussions at Comic Con around both Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead is the talk of whether and how the shows would have a crossover.

The cast of Fear the Walking Dead answer questions about the rest of season three

Robert Kirkman, the executive producer of both shows and creator of the original “The Walking Dead” graphic novel teased the idea in several panels during Comic Con. “I think it would be something we would love to work out,” he said.

The cast has their own ideas of what a crossover would look like, each offering who their characters would team up with.

Dickens thinks Madison’s pick would be the bow and arrow wielding Daryl Dixon, instead of the obvious choice, Rick Grimes. “I think Madison is, probably, might be related to Daryl,” she said.

Although executive producer Dave Erickson has already discredited the popular fan theory that Madison and Rick are actually related, with both coming from the south, the thought that she might be related to Daryl is completely new.

Daryl was also the pick of Michael Greyeyes, who plays Qaletqa Walker on the show. “For Walker, it’d be Daryl,” he said.

Stars Sam Underwood, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane of Fear the Walking Dead

Although not a partnership for his character, Victor Strand, Colman Domingo imagines his season three counterpart, Daniel Salazar, would go up against arguably one of the worst villains of The Walking Dead. “I think Daniel would take out Negan.” Domingo said.

Mercedes Mason noted, “[Ofelia] and her dad would go to Carol. Or if Walker wasn’t around, she would find the biggest and strongest, so probably Rick.”

I’ve always said probably Maggie, said Alycia Debnam-Carey. “They would have a great friendship.

Actor Daniel Sharman, who plays Troy Otto, said he would get along with Merle Dixon, but warns it wouldn’t be a great time for the other characters. “Otto offered that he would team up with Negan.
