Each event will be co-hosted by Bill Hader and/or Henry Winkler and will include a screening of the first two episodes of the series, followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A by Erik Adams, an editor at The A.V. Club, The Onion‘s pop-culture-centric sister site. A BARRY takeover, including food and drink, will follow the program.
Limited tickets will be released to the general public on the official HBO Facebook page beginning Friday at 9:00 a.m. PT/ noon ET.
BARRY is a dark comedy starring Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) as a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an aspiring actor. Barry follows his “mark” into an acting class and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene. Barry wants to start a new life in this community of eager hopefuls, but his criminal past won’t let him walk away. Can he find a way to balance the two worlds?
The eight episode season premieres Sunday, March 25 at 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on HBO.
Other cast regulars include: Stephen Root (Get Out, HBO’s All the Way) as Fuches, Barry’s handler; Sarah Goldberg (Hindsight) as Sally, a dedicated acting student who becomes Barry’s love interest; Glenn Fleshler (HBO’s True Detective) as Goran Pazar, a Chechen mob kingpin with a surprisingly sentimental side; Anthony Carrigan (Gotham) as NoHo Hank, Pazar’s brutal but unfailingly polite sidekick; and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development) as a pompous yet endearing acting teacher who takes Barry under his wing.
Created by Alec Berg & Bill Hader; executive producers, Bill Hader and Alec Berg; produced by Aida Rogers; consulting producer, Liz Sarnoff; producer, Emily Heller.
Bill Hader is a three-time Emmy® nominee as a regular on Saturday Night Live (2005-2013). Hader also created and starred in Documentary Now!, the parody series he created with SNL alum Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, Rhys Thomas and Alex Buono. Hader has made his mark in many big-screen hits, including Trainwreck, Superbad and Tropic Thunder. He has provided voices for both TV series (South Park) and movies (Inside Out, Monsters University, Finding Dory), and has also written for South Park. Hader won a 2014 American Comedy Award as “Funniest Supporting Male Performer in a TV Series” for his work on SNL.
Henry Winkler has enjoyed four decades of success in Hollywood as an actor, producer and director. In 1973, he was cast in the iconic role of Arthur Fonzarelli, aka The Fonz, in the TV series Happy Days. During his 10 years on the popular sitcom, he won two Golden Globe Awards, was nominated three times for an Emmy Award and was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In recent years, Winkler has appeared in a number of series, including Better Late Than Never, Children’s Hospital, Royal Pains, Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development.
