News: CBS Will Provide Multiplatform Coverage of The Royal Wedding Beginning 4:00 AM ET on May 19

It’s the wedding we’ve all been waiting for ever since learning Prince Harry was dating Meghan Markle, one of the stars of USA’s drama series Suits. Well, wait no more! CBS is planning extensive coverage of the royal event, including the wedding and two specials — Royal Romance: The Marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a two-hour special airing May 19 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, and Meghan Markle: An American Princess, a one-hour special airing April 20 at 10:00 PM ET/PT.

CBS Television Network to Broadcast One-hour Primetime Special on April 20

 

CBS THIS MORNING co-host Gayle King and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT co-host Kevin Frazier will anchor CBS News’ extensive, live, multiplatform coverage of the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from London Saturday, May 19, beginning at 4:00 AM, ET on the CBS Television Network.

CBS News royal contributor Tina Brown will join King and Frazier for the coverage, to provide insight into the royal family and the events of the day.

CBS News will also present ROYAL ROMANCE: THE MARRIAGE OF PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE, a two-hour primetime special at 8:00 PM, ET/PT on Saturday, May 19, looking at the day’s events as the American actress and advocate marries into Britain’s royal family before a global audience. The special will take viewers into this thoroughly modern marriage and its impact on the British monarchy.

CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming news network, will have comprehensive coverage beginning Friday, May 18 with Vladimir Duthiers reporting live from London leading up to the wedding. In addition, CBSN will stream the Network’s coverage of the ceremony and festivities beginning at 4:00 AM, ET on Saturday, May 19 with interviews and analysis following the special event.

Gayle King will also be anchoring a one-hour primetime special on Friday, April 20 at 10:00 PM, entitled MEGHAN MARKLE: AMERICAN PRINCESS.

CBS News coverage will feature the run-up to the wedding, original reporting exploring the couple’s path to the altar, the wedding service live from St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, and the post-ceremony parade.

CBS Newspath, CBS News’ newsgathering organization providing news and information to 200+ affiliates nationwide and to broadcasters around the world, will feature extensive coverage in the run-up to the big day. Throughout the week, correspondent Teri Okita will offer packages designed to illustrate the significance of the events happening across the pond.

CBS News Radio will provide live anchored coverage of the event with correspondent Steve Futterman on the ground in London. CBS News Radio will also simulcast CBS Television Network coverage. CBS News Radio will provide short-form special reports during the ceremonies. THE CBS NEWS WEEKEND ROUNDUP will broadcast a one-hour royal wedding special that evening.

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT will broadcast from London and Windsor the entire week of May 14 leading up to the wedding with special royal coverage on the nightly broadcast and on ETonline. A full recap of the royal wedding from Windsor Castle will air on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT Monday, May 21, with the latest on all the fashion, the celebrity guest list and the biggest moments from the ceremony.

Additionally, on Friday, April 20 at 10:00 PM, CBS News will broadcast MEGHAN MARKLE: AMERICAN PRINCESS, a one-hour special anchored by Gayle King exploring the relationship between Prince Harry and Markle. Markle’s story, from being a child activist to being an international star, is told through those who know her best – friends, co-workers and more. Among those featured is photographer Alexi Lubormirski, who talks about bonding with the couple over their shared passion for humanitarian work while shooting their official engagement portrait. Markle’s sorority sisters weigh in on what she was like in college and beyond. Wendell Pierce, who played Markle’s father on the series “Suits,” opens up about how the cast learned she was dating Prince Harry. Markle’s former teachers explain how she was showing multi-dimensional flourishes as a child. Viewers will learn what makes Markle stand out and the path she took to become half of an international power couple for a new era.
