With many of my favorite television series on CBS, I was happy to read the network’s announcement today of the shows that will be returning for the 2012-2013 broadcast season. Included in the list are such favorites as The Good Wife (love that Julianna Marguilies!), Blue Bloods and The Big Bang Theory. In all, 18 series are returning, including four comedies, nine dramas, three reality shows and two newsmagazines.
Along with the previously mentioned dramas, NCIS, NCIS:Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Person of Interest, and The Mentalist are on the list. The other comedies returning include How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, and Mike & Molly (a personal favorite). Of note, this season’s freshman drama series, Person of Interest is the only one to be renewed this early.
According to CBS, they are in talks now with Warner Bros. Television regarding future seasons of Two and a Half Men. The fate of CBS’ other dramas—CSI: NY and Miami, as well as freshman dramas, Unforgettable and A Gifted Man—and the perpetually funny Rules of Engagement will likely be announced at the May Upfront.
The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss and Survivor encompass the returning reality series; 60 Minutes and 48 Hours Mystery are the returning newsmagazine shows.
According to Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, “This large-scale renewal is testimony to the strength, stability and success of a deep and diverse roster of top-rated programming. It positions us for continued success next season and certainly creates an environment that will give our new shows the best possible chance to succeed.”
