“’Now we’ve got eyes – eyes – a beautiful pair of children’s eyes,’ he whispered.” —Grimm

Thanks for creeping out the song “Mr. Sandman” for me, Grimm. I don’t know if I will ever be able to listen to that song again without thinking of Andre (Kieren Hutchison), a disgusting, black fly Wesen known as a Jinnamuru Xunte who blows red sand in his victims’ eyes, blinding and infecting them with parasitic worms as he feasts on their tears. Shudder. I just gave myself the heebie-jeebies thinking of it.

“Mr. Sandman” has many interesting plot points – Adalind’s (Claire Coffee) pregnancy is epic beyond imagining. After consulting with a Hexenbiest elder, Adalind realizes her unborn child, whose father may be either Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) or his half-brother Eric (James Frain), is quite valuable. I wasn’t shocked to learn Eric mght be the father ; however, I think to spice things up on the show, it will be Sean’s. Despite his half-royal/half-Hexenbiest lineage, Sean still holds value, especially with a Grimm on his side.

Another intriguing story line involves Juliette’s (Bitsie Tulloch) hallucinations. My wild hair theory — they are her own latent memories trying to resurface from her coma-induced memory loss. The apparition, or mist-like figure, only she sees; the odd noises only she hears; I believe they are her own memories trying to return. But poor Juliette thinks she’s gone mad. I appreciate the writers taking their time bringing Juliette’s memory back. These strange incidents give not only her character, but the story, much more of a haunted feel. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Sean’s unusual nightmare. Dreaming of Juliette sleeping next to him is one thing, but for her to turn into a hideous looking ancient hag asking him to kiss her like he did before is downright terrifying.

Meanwhile, Andre’s case gets increasingly disturbing as Nick (David Giuntoli), Hank (Russell Hornsby), and Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) discover exactly what type of Wesen Andre really is. It’s frighteningly disgusting. And when Andre goes into his full Wesen mode, or “full vulga” as Monroe says, it reminds me of the movie The Fly. I love horror films, even the ones that scare me enough to sleep with the lights on for a week, and “Mr. Sandman” does an excellent job of really piling on the ick factor. Those red, barbed, parasitic worms are disgusting, especially when one of Andre’s victims rips off the bandages on her eyes, allowing the viewer to see the revolting darkened, bloody wiggly things protruding from her eyes.

What happens to Nick is quite an unexpected surprise. It’s a known fact that if you lose one of your five senses, the others heighten. With Nick being a Grimm, the loss of his sight greatly increases his other senses, particularly his hearing. I love the way the show highlights all his senses, giving them center stage to showcase Nick’s true supernatural powers. He’s a Grimm, which means he’s also a supernatural being. He’s not a normal human; he can’t be to hunt these creatures. Giving Nick more realistic abilities, like the heightened senses, not only fits, but is timely. As the threat of a Wesen uprising increases, so do Nick’s abilities as a Grimm. Monroe says it best: “Hate to say it man, I think those little red worms might’ve actually done you some good.”

While I hope to see more clues about Juliette’s hallucinations to prove my theory, I’m content with waiting and watching like the rest of the Grimm fans. Admittedly, I am very anxious to see the return of the royals, especially Eric. Frain is such a good actor; I know he’ll add more depth of darkness and deception while also shedding more light on what happened with the royal family and whether Sean voluntarily left or was cast out. And speaking of family, who is Sean’s mother? Could the old crone Adalind consulted know more about Sean’s origins?

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
