Baby Driver “TeKillYah” Trailer
————–Original Post April 19, 2017————
One of the things I love about attending SXSW is watching films that aren’t on anyone’s radar yet. Often, those films haven’t even released a trailer yet and the only thing people have to go by is a publicity photo and synopsis. Edgar Wright’s new film Baby Driver was no different.
Synopsis: “Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.” — TriStar Pictures
While the story of a criminal who must partake in one final score before walking away may sound cliché, Baby Driver isn’t your typical action crime film. Written and directed by Wright, Baby Driver is a labor of love for Wright who first came up with the film in 1994. In 2003, he adapted the idea for a music video he directed for the Mint Royale, a British electronic group.
Baby Driver was all the buzz at SXSW; based on the trailers below, it’s easy to see why. Not only does the film feature an all-star cast (Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Bernthal, Eiza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx), the action and visuals are mesmerizing. Each time I watch the clips, I notice something new, like the tumbling colors in the laundromat. I especially love how some of the sounds and music match the action.
After watching all three videos, it came as no surprise to me that the film won the audience award in the Headliners category at the festival.
While some of the trailers list August as the premiere date, the Baby Driver release date was recently moved up to June 28, 2017.
