Film footage from one of the movies with the longest incubation periods in history is expected to be released today. A sneak peak at On the Road will be making its debut today via the film’s Facebook page. The movie is based on Jack Kerouac’s novel and its release clearly honors the writer who would have been 90 years old on March 12th.
News of the trailer’s release appropriately hit the internet via San Francisco’s Beat Museum Twitter page (@keroaucdotcom) and it’s been buzzing around ever since. The book had been considered for a movie adaptation while Kerouac was still alive and he detailed his plans in a letter to Marlon Brando. Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to adapt it into film ever since he bought the rights in the 1980s but serious efforts began materializing after he personally brought Brazilian director Walter Salles on board.
Although international release dates for the film have previously been announced, the US market is still waiting for a distributor announcement and a release date. That information may be finally revealed mid-April based on Twitter updates made by one of the film’s producers, Charles Gillibert, where he indicated worldwide distributors and release dates will be announced during that timeframe.
To those anticipating the film, the magazine “Trois Couleurs,” put together by On the Road’s production company MK2, has also announced a spring release of a special edition that will be focused on On the Road.
With a star-studded cast that boasts Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, and Steve Buscemi, it looks like the On the Road promo machine is well underway.
