From Magnolia Pictures and the director of Cocaine Cowboys comes the Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, Limelight, an exuberant documentary about the owner of several of New York’s hottest clubs in the 1980s: Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium and Club USA. The film traces the story of Peter Gatien, the king of the club scene until legal woes, and police pressure spearheaded by Mayor Giuliani’s determined crackdown on nightlife in the mid-’90s, led to his deportation to Canada. Limelight offers a wild ride through this dead chapter in the history of NYC nightlife, and features insider interviews with famous players in the club scene, as well as key informants in Gatien’s high-profile trial. Limelight comes to a theater near you beginning Friday, September 23rd.
From comments like “A breathless crime story” from IFC, to “Visually exciting and narratively charged” from Film Journal, and “A must see movie” from Details, this is one documentary you won’t want to miss.
