Last night, we saw last week’s top couple tumble to the bottom, while the bottom couple climbed to the top. To start off this week’s results show, the judges asked Team Chelsea to repeat their performance. It was even better tonight.
Wasting no time, eliminations began and Hines and Kym were declared safe, while Kirstie and Maks went to the bottom. As much as I like Kirstie, I thought that was fair. She really didn’t perform up to par.
We were then treated to a performance by Nicki Minaj, the only artist to have eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in a single year. Minaj sang “Moment for Life” from her platinum selling album, “Pink Friday,” with a dance assist by the Dance Troupe. Great entertainment!
Tonight saw a brand new segment on Dancing with the Stars that shines a spotlight on how dance can change lives. Patricia Zhou is 17 and the newest member of the Royal Ballet of London. Her parents did not want her to become a ballerina, but she persisted until they finally gave in. Getting a very late start, it wasn’t readily apparent she would succeed, but succeed she did and ballet has changed her life. As Martin Fredman, artistic director of the Kirov Academy noted, “Patricia is definitely the next generation of world-class ballerinas. She is on her way to becoming the Michael Jordan of ballet.” Patricia performed a beautiful ballet to singer/songwriter Priscilla Ann’s rendition of “Dream.” Her movements were so fluid, light and airy, and with her beautiful smile, I’m sure people will flock to watch her perform.
Next up for elimination is Ralph and Karina, along with Chelsea and Mark. Safe to dance next week are Ralph and Karina, while Chelsea and Mark are in jeopardy. That announcement brought a lot of boos from the audience, which I totally concur with. No way did they deserve to be in the bottom three! I’m pretty sure the show did that to ensure people vote to keep their favorites on.
Today marks what would have been the 78th birthday of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. To celebrate his life and incredible talent, guest Wayne Brady performed a medley of his songs, while the Macy’s Stars of Dance assisted him as Brown’s family looked on. I have to say, Wayne Brady is one talented man. Not only does he have a great voice, but his dance moves, including James Brown’s famous footwork, rocked!
Before learning the fate of the remaining couples, the stars sat down with their professional partners for a face-to-face chat about what they need to do to win. More work, less stress, more sex were among the comments. More praise, more validation, and a list of their strengths and weaknesses were what the stars wanted from their pros.
The next guest to perform was singer/songwriter and five-time Grammy nominee, James Blunt. He performed his new single, “I’ll Be Your Man,” from his recently-released album, “Some Kind of Trouble,” and was accompanied by 14-time Latin champions, Maks’ brother, Val, and Dascha Chesnakova. I’m a big James Blunt fan, so I was thrilled to see this! And let me tell you, as good looking as Maks is, he doesn’t have anything on Val, who’s a real cutie, and did a very sexy and entertaining dance with Dascha. By the way, please don’t quote me on the spelling of Dascha’s name!
The final two couples to learn their fate are Romeo and Chelsie and Kendra and Louis. The last couple safe was Romeo and Chelsie, sending Kendra and Louis to the bottom three. As Kendra was one of my picks to go home tonight, I wasn’t the least bit surprised.
Head judge Len gave his assessment of the three contestants in jeopardy. “Kirstie, you’ve got to become more consistent, you know. Last night you got a 6, the week before you got a 9 from me, so more consistent is your way forward. Kendra, you know some flowers bloom early, some flowers bloom late. You’ve been a late-blossoming girl and the last few weeks, you’ve really come on. As for Chelsea, well, you’re one of the most talented girls on this show and I’ll be really shocked if you’re not back because you really perform beautifully.”
With that said, Tom Bergeron announced Kirstie and Maks, as well as Chelsea and Mark were safe, meaning going home tonight were Kendra and Louis. I do have to say, Kendra became a pretty good dancer over the past seven weeks, but as we well know, someone has to go.
Next week, in addition to their regular routines, the instant dances are back. Should be fun dancing fans!
Watch Dancing with the Stars, Mondays at 8:00/7:00c on ABC.
