While it seems like Comic-Con happened ages ago, it really wasn’t. It was a little over two months ago that Your Entertainment Corner ventured down to San Diego and frequented the Bayfront Hilton like a second home. During our four-day stay in San Diego, we were able to sit down in The CW’s The Vampire Diaries’ (TVD) press room and speak to several of the sexy men of the series, including Matt Davis, who returns as beloved history teacher Alaric Saltzman; Paul Wesley, who plays vampire Stefan Salvatore; and Ian Somerhalder, who plays another vampire named Damon Salvatore and just so happens to be Stefan’s brother. With The Vampire Diaries’ season six premiere airing Thursday, October 2, 2014 (tomorrow), it seems only right to share these interviews now.
First up is Matt Davis. Davis told us although he is excited to be back on the show, he was prepared to have a conversation with executive producer/ writer Julie Plec about not returning as a guest star anymore because it is too hard for him. Then, of course, Plec brings him back as a series regular for season six; yay! I’ve always loved Alaric. I didn’t like the character in the first book, The Vampire Diaries – The Awakening, by L.J. Smith, but the way the show has recreated Alaric is refreshing.
Davis also mentioned he’s a bit jealous of the bond between Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) so we’ll see if there is any Alaric-Enzo buddy time happening this season.
Next, we spoke to Paul Wesley. Wesley began by answering questions about how he’s enjoying Comic-Con. It’s kind of a like a “big school dance” where everyone gathers and meets up, he said. He loves running into people at these types of events.
Wesley joked about his character Stefan leaving Mystic Falls to pursue his own life and become a “car mechanic.” He said instead of wearing overalls, he’s going to go with the “white t-shirt, James Dean, greasy, come on, CW style. Gotta keep it CW; gotta keep it CW.” As the questions probed deeper about Stefan’s return, Wesley noted, Stefan doesn’t return to Mystic Falls in the episodes he’s read. But I’m sure he’ll return eventually, right?
On another topic, Wesley told us the Ripper Stefan is his favorite thing he’s done in the last six years (I’m guessing he means on TVD of course).
Jealousy continued with Wesley saying he has been envious of Alaric and Damon’s friendship. After all, Stefan needs a “bro” too. He thought Klaus (Joseph Morgan, The Originals) and Stefan could be bros like they were back in the 1920s flashbacks. When asked if he could have another actor guest star as his “bro” on the show, Wesley responded he “bro’d out” with pal, Michael Cudlitz, who plays Sgt. Abraham Ford on AMC’s The Walking Dead (TWD). Both TVD and TWD film in Atlanta.
Wesley joked about Stefan and Caroline’s friendship, saying something about them eventually finding their way back to being friends who “make out.” Wesley hopes Stefan finds romance this season, repeating, “I hope so, I hope so, I sure as hell hope so.”
As the interview wound down, the question about the world’s fascination with vampires and their sex appeal came up. Wesley commented, “It helps that they cast…our whole cast is esthetically pleasing; that’s not a coincidence, it’s The CW way…” He sure isn’t lying about that. It’s a very gorgeous cast.
Last, but certainly not least, Ian Somerhalder. You gotta love it when Somerhalder, looking so sexy, starts off the interview talking about Damon’s bedroom complete with a double Cal King size bed. He told us, “He [Damon] needs to be able to fit at least eight sorority girls.” While Somerhalder doesn’t hold sororities or fraternities with high regard, he confessed Damon loves sorority girls – Damon loves “eating them, sleeping with them, showering with them…”
Somerhalder spoke about Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon being on “the other side” at the beginning of season six; he is quite happy to be working with Graham in a more singular dynamic.
Somerhalder then answered a question regarding the environment on set and states that TVD’s blooper reels “suck,” no pun intended. This is a “teen vampire soap opera” and there isn’t much time to be “outlandish” or “funny.” Then he talked about the hilarious blooper reels they had on ABC’s Lost. Somerhalder told us about a prank someone pulled on his Lost co-star Maggie Grace. Someone put a giant “sex toy” in her prop carry on. The way Damon told it, while showing off his laugh lines, melted my heart and made me swoon!
Winding up the interview, Somerhalder said something that caught me off guard. He said this could “very well be our last,” meaning this may be the final season of TVD. GASP!
Without further ado…the video interviews!
