On the Red Carpet – FX Network’s Season 5 premiere of Sons of Anarchy

Location: Westwood Village Theatre, Westwood, CA

Date: Saturday, September 8, 2012

It’s a very warm, sunny day in Westwood, CA. The streets are blocked off and fans are starting to line up. I get some stares and possibly the stink-eye from a few of the devoted fans as they see me checking-in to get my press wristband and take my place on the press line. And despite the fact I’ve done this before, I was so nervous stepping onto the press line. I always get nervous before big events like this. I’m a fan, too. I’m going to be talking to these actors/actresses that portray some of my favorite characters on one of my favorite shows, so yeah, I’m stoked but also freaking out. As you will tell in some of the video commentary, I flub a few words. I totally blank on Ryan Hurst’s character’s name – Opie, until the beautiful Winter Ave Zoli, who plays Lyla, realizes I’m a bit frazzled and says his name.

And you will also see a somewhat, especially on my end, awkward exchange with Dayton Callie, who plays Wayne Unser. I asked him or rather tried to comment that it appears to me that his character, Unser, is even more enamored with the lovely and volatile Gemma (Katey Sagal). I was trying to establish that Unser is still vying for her affections in some ways but I may have misspoken or perhaps he misinterpreted my sentiments that I was trying to get across. The point of my question/comment being will we see the change in Unser’s relationship with Gemma evolve this season in regards to his deepening affections for her.

There was a very interesting moment when I got to speak with Charlie Hunnam. As he started to answer one of my questions, Theo Rossi comes up behind him and lightly caresses his chest from over the shoulder. It’s quite funny and totally left field. Hunnam mentions in the video that he’s a bit fragile at the moment, physically, after working with director Guillermo del Toro on Pacific Rim. The other film I mentioned with Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde is called Deadfall (http://www.magpictures.com/deadfall).

One of the intriguing tidbits I picked up listening in on others interviewing the cast is something Paris Barclay (Executive Producer) mentions. One – he says a “central character will die unexpectedly.” Second – Guest star Ashley Tisdale will shake that lingering Disney façade for good. She’ll play a hooker on the show in a few episodes. Third – Guest star Joel McHale takes a departure from his comedic persona as he will also make appearances in a few episodes.

I am so excited for this season. After seeing the first two episodes, if they are indicative of what this season will bring, it’s going to be one helluva ride!

Try as I may and try as I might, I couldn’t get everyone on the red carpet, but here’s who I did get:

1st interview with Michael Marisi Ornstein (Chuck).

2nd interview with Winter Ave Zoli (Lyla).

3rd interview with Dayton Callie (Wayne Unser).

4th interview with Emilio Rivera ( Marcus Alvarez, leader of the Mayans).

5th interview with Danny Trejo  (Romero “Romeo” Parada (Galindo Cartel/CIA)).

6th interview with Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller). He gets groped by Theo Rossi during our conversation and Hunnam says, “it’s the most action I’ve gotten in weeks.” GASP! Unbelievable!

7th interview with Maggie Siff (Tara Knowles).

8th interview with Jimmy Smits (Nero Padilla). (Yes, I asked about his nude scenes…don’t judge. He’s sexy!)

Tune in to Sons of Anarchy – season 5 premieres on FX, Tuesday Sept. 11, 2012 at 10PM E/P.

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
