I Might Be In The Minority On This One... Review: True Blood "We'll Meet Again"

That is a perfect description of how I feel. I’m being tortured although I’m already broken. Can someone who is still a huge fan of True Blood tell me what I’m missing? Why am I not excited for Sunday night anymore? I’ve lost my fervor for the show and don’t think I’ll ever get it back. I’m no longer entertained nor do I care what happens in the human/vampire/fae world of Bon Temps, Louisiana.

But here is what I do know: the vampires are split into two groups—The Authority and Sanguinistas. The Authority is all for mainstreaming—or should I say Roman (Christopher Meloni) is all for mainstreaming—while the Sanguinistas are hardcore vamps who want nothing but the blood of humans. Ok. So what’s the point? Well, either The Authority (Roman) has some side deal going on with the makers of True Blood and his mainstreaming kitsch is all about making cash or he’s secretly plotting to fool all the fae into believing they are no longer being hunted because vampires are off the juice and on the bottle. Where Russell Edington (Denis O’Hare) comes into play is he’s all about using humans for what they are—blood bags—and wouldn’t try mainstreaming to save his life. Again I ask, what’s the point? Is Roman trying to prove to some higher authority that he can keep control of the vampire population? Is he plotting something bigger like turning all humans into vamps and making the world a true vampire nation? What do you think?

Does anyone care about Terry’s storyline?

Observations:

Tara (Rutina Wesley) asks, “How many of us almost died to save her sorry ass?” and when I think about it, the answer is a lot. Why is there “always some fool there to take a bullet for her” when Sookie (Anna Paquin) can clearly take care of herself?

“I trust no one.” Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) seems like a completely different vampire nowadays. I’m sure I’ve said this before but I can’t put my finger on the change. Last week he said something to the effect of ‘he adapts quickly,’ so he’s not hurting over Sookie kicking him to the curb. Why the change in attitude though?

Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) asks some good questions of her maker. Eric doesn’t quite answer her but skirts the truth and I think it’s because Bill (Stephen Moyer) is in the house. You can never be too careful around him. We know the relationship between Eric and Pam is strained but what’s happened between them that he can’t include her in his plans and Bill gets top billing? I swear I’m lost in the sauce on this one.

“I told you, I ruin people’s lives.” I would like to say I feel sorry for Sookie but I don’t. Probably because I can’t relate to this Sookie. She isn’t the brave, smart, mystery solving girl of season one. In fact, she’s not even a caricature of that Sookie. She’s some made up fascination of a producer who shall not be named, and there’s no going back from here. I would like to know why she’s getting the entire blame for a decision both she and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis)—though mostly Lafayette—made for Tara. It’s curious how no one accuses him or acknowledges his part in what happened. And do I need to mention the brujo making appearances through an angry Lafayette? *long, depressed sigh* (His super power may come in handy though.)

The pity party Sookie throws for herself is indicative of her state of mind. The only being who has any sympathy for her is a vampire—one of the very creatures who have caused her the most grief. I love Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and how sweet she can be at times, but she is so naïve. She’s kept in the dark and doesn’t know what’s going on and therefore can’t see what’s right in front of her. Did she not realize Bill was issuing her a solemn goodbye? Why do I get the feeling some major characters are going to bite the dust?

Pam sleeps in her heels?! This fascinates me though I’m not sure why.

Did Eric have to release Pam from their bond in order to protect her? No. Sending her away would have garnered the same result. Not sure I understand what the hell is going on with this but, whatever. Maybe this is some ploy for drama to begin Emmy talks for the show but this scene isn’t even that heartbreaking. It seems more like a last ditch effort to drum up more ratings or something. Let’s not forget, Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) released Bill too. What difference did that make?

I like Meloni’s portrayal of Roman. Not because the character brings something to the show but because Meloni’s a good actor. He dove right into his scenes and I didn’t once think of Law & Order: SVU. Nope, not once. I felt Roman’s supremacy when he was speaking to the other members of The Authority, as well as the fear he invoked in the counsel. Roman is hardcore to the point of scary, which is why I don’t trust him.

Funny lines:

Lafayette to Sookie: “I could have sold your peach pie ass out so many times I done lost count.”

Emory (Chris Butler) to Sam about the Merlotte’s menu: “So what do you recommend here?”

Sam: “Honestly, nothing.”

Another less than mediocre episode that tells us little to nothing. I do have one question though: how does Jason (Ryan Kwanten) know about faeries? I don’t remember when he and Sookie had that talk. My earlier theorizing of vampires tricking the fae into believing they’ll leave them alone just might be on point. I don’t think the club Jason was zapped too was in Faery, but Monroe. The broke ass burlesque show was supposed to be an interpretation of Hooligan’s, Claude’s (Giles Matthey) strip club. It didn’t pass as anything more than a circus act but the fact that it was in this episode means something. The writers aren’t letting us forget about the fae for a reason.
