“23 days left and you have to spend two of them with Duke?” —Nate

There seems to be an overflow of killers in Haven as of late. First it was the bolt-gun killer, now there are blackmailers who are killing people promising to resurrect them for a price. The “troubled” case in “Magic Hour” really proves quite alluring.

Huh? For a moment, I thought immortals had arrived in Haven when a small child with a broken neck awakens after the sun goes down. Then her mother is mowed down in a hit-and-run but later wiggles around in her body bag just as the sun sets. As much as I love the supernatural, I didn’t want Haven to become infested with the undead. Luckily, it’s not vampiric or dare I say, zombie-like revivals, but more someone’s “trouble” that brings the dead back to life.

Audrey: “You are an amazing friend.”
Duke: “Audrey, I’d do anything you need me to. I’d hunt down your past and find your future.”
*SWOON*

When Audrey (Emily Rose) and Duke (Eric Balfour) go to Colorado to research more about “The Colorado Kid” James Cogan (Steve Lund), I knew we were going to get something other than clues to James’ identity. I digress.  When they get to his parents’ home, they find a man who resides in the boarding house that has a symbol resembling the mysterious tattoo hanging on the front porch. Apparently, Jordan (Kate Kelton) was right. “The Guard” reaches across the country to help “the troubled.” James’s father is deceased but Audrey and Duke learn his mother, June is now in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer’s.  It seems June knew Audrey when she was Sarah back in the 1950’s and now Audrey needs to figure out a way to tap into latent memories that June may still possess.

Ok, can we please skip to the part where Audrey and Duke are sitting on her bed in the hotel room? Yeah, that was a WOW moment. I kept inching closer and closer to my television in anticipation. I dared not to blink because I didn’t want to miss it. By “it” I mean the kiss. Yes, they kiss! And what a kiss it is. Poor Duke…someone hand him some ice for his blue…uh, bruised ego. I’m torn—I adore Nathan but I’m very enamored by Duke as well. What a conundrum.

Tommy seems awfully curious about where Audrey is all the time. He gives “being shady” a new meaning.

Nathan (Lucas Bryant) and Tommy (Dorian Missick) continue to investigate the strange rebirths of victims but Nathan has enlisted Jordan’s help. I’m still not sure where Nathan’s head and heart is. Is he falling for Jordan? The way he touches her face so softly, that’s not pretend. Jordan recognizes the watch on the bolt-gun killer’s arm in a crime scene photo. The watch belongs to someone she knows in The Guard. What I find interesting is Jordan goes to Dwight (Adam Copeland) for help. There is so much more about Dwight’s past and his history as the resident “cleaner” that the writers have been keeping mum. *shakes fist at the writers* Come on, stop dangling this unreachable carrot and give us a nibble!

I knew that Tommy’s presence in Haven wasn’t a good thing. It is an intriguing dynamic to the close knit residents who are all familiar with the uniqueness of Haven, but something about Tommy rubbed me the wrong way. I’ve had a wild hair theory that Tommy is working for someone who has intimate knowledge of Audrey’s past lives—Agent Howard (Maurice Dean Wint). Don’t you find it odd that Tommy always asks where Audrey is? When Nathan asks Tommy to follow the husband of the hit-and-run victim, Tommy replies, “Solo or with Audrey?” It is strange that Audrey and Tommy haven’t really worked together on any cases, is it not? And now Nathan finds out the hard way that Tommy isn’t who he appears to be. I know Nathan can’t be…he just can’t be…dead? NO! (I think I’m having heart palpitations).

Audrey wears a red wig to look more like she did when she was Sarah back in the 1950’s.

If you’ve been paying close attention to what the Teague brothers Dave (John Dunsworth) and Vince (Richard Donat) have said in the past, you’ll understand my logic. These two brothers know way too much but it’s only been revealed in bits and pieces (which I enjoy). I don’t like predictability. Vince told Dave that he wasn’t going to let him stand in his way of helping Audrey. It seems Vince was in love with Audrey when she was Lucy. But, Dave supposedly was in love with Audrey when she was Sarah. When June Cogan reveals something to Audrey, who is donning a red wig to appear more like Sarah, it hit me like a ton of bricks. “We already love him so much. I know it must have hurt to give him up, Sarah, but I can take care of him. I can protect your baby.” (Queue shocking music) WHAT?! James aka “The Colorado Kid” is Sarah’s son…Audrey’s son? Does that mean Dave is …the father? My only conclusions are these: either the kidnapper is the father or Dave is. Or Dave is the kidnapper. The latter doesn’t seem reasonable but stranger things have happened.

This week’s case is very complicated and puzzling. I really enjoyed the twist of the two sisters, Noelle (Melanie Scrofano) who’s “trouble” brings the dead back and, Moira (Claudia Black), who’s simply troubled and greedy. But can Noelle help save Nathan?  I cannot wait until next week to find out what happens as “Magic Hour” continues.

Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
