“Badge. Gun. Chin.” —Pete Lattimer

A mysterious occurrence of growth spurts potentially related to a prescribed heartburn medication plagues a small town in Indiana and Myka (Joanne Kelly) and Pete (Eddie McClintock) are on the case.  Meanwhile, Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) and Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) team up to find out what Artie (Saul Rubinek) is hiding about the mysterious black crystals and missing artifacts.

Jinks and Claudia assist Artie in tracking Brother Adrian to an abandoned house

“Endless Wonder” is just a really fun and entertaining episode. It has your accustomed cheesy antics from the lovable Pete; the brilliance and playful banter from Myka; and the genius and ingenuity from both Claudia and Jinks. The flow of the characters interactions are so smooth it almost feels like this is a day from their normal lives and not a fictional television series. It’s one of the dynamics of Warehouse 13 that keeps me coming back week after week.

This week’s case was a bit unusual. Several people in a small town began to suddenly grow taller. Usually after a certain age (18-21), most adults stop growing and while the action is desired, the painful side effects are not. These poor victims are literally being pulled apart as they continue to grow. The pharmaceutical company that makes the heartburn medication sends their tenacious rep Deb Stanley (Danielle Nicolet) to investigate the possible link between the medication and the unusual happenings.

Deb (Danielle Nicolet) stares in wonderment at the vastness of the warehouse

During the entire investigation, Pete and Deb seem to be hitting it off…quite well, in fact. Myka even calls Pete “a slut!” It’s hilarious! And while I’m happy for Pete getting some action, he really needs a tan. And Deb is kind of like a female version of Pete. Except she’s not gassy like he is; at least I hope not. The high-five they give each other post-coitus really ups her cool factor for me but she’s up to something. Her insatiable need to figure things out leads her to the B & B and warehouse, much to Leena’s (Genelle Williams) surprise. Will Deb become a new warehouse agent? Regent Kosan (Faran Tahir) seems to have taken an interest in her after confirming that Pete gets a good vibe from her. I’m not sure what I think about bringing in a new agent but we’ll see how things pan out.

I love the intriguing artifacts that were mentioned throughout the episode that may or may not be the cause of the growth spurts—Paul Bunyan’s Axe or David’s slingshot (as in David and Goliath). This is another aspect of Warehouse 13 that’s really amazing. The way the creators/writers incorporate such a diverse mix of historical relics and events into each case and/or artifact is truly wonderful. The evidence and clues regarding the cause of the growth spurts leads Pete and Myka to Greek mythology—Colossus of Rhodes. Go figure!

Adrian continues to warn Artie about the evils unleashed from using the astrolabe.

The other events of “Endless Wonder” deal with the elusive and very vindictive Brother Adrian (Brent Spiner). He strikes again as he uses the “Threshold of Limentinus” to gain undetected entry to the warehouse and steals “Harriet Tubman’s Thimble.” Adrian continues to warn Artie about the impending evil that he unleashed when he used Magellan’s Astrolabe to restore the warehouse. But now, Artie has to deal with someone else knowing his secret—H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray). A time traveler’s nose knows. She riddled it out and confronts Artie with her findings. What will happen? Does this mean H.G. is now in grave danger per Adrian’s warning? H.G. has informed Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) about this as well. I can only imagine what she’s doing to remedy this situation. Mrs. Frederic isn’t one to suffer fools.

Funny moments/lines:

As Pete and Myka mention potential artifacts that could be causing the growth spurts, Pete mentions a “magical bag of beans,” to which Artie scoffs, “And beans? Please. That’s just a fairy tale.”

Pete: “Well, it’s good to know where we draw the line.”

***

Myka is trying to stave off Deb’s aggressive attempts to join them on their investigation but Pete has a better idea: “Why don’t we split up? You (Myka) dig into the four (victims) we know and I’ll go play doctor with Deb.”

***

Myka teases Pete about his new love interest: “So, what about you? How goes it with the uh, the second ex-future Mrs. Lattimer?”

***

I would really like to see more about Leena’s character and I would like to see more team mix-ups. Why not have Pete and Claudia work together some more and Myka and Jinks? Sometimes, you have to change things up a bit to tantalize your audience. Oh, perhaps get Leena out in the field too? The warehouse can get stuffy.
