“Come on, I’ll make it quick. We don’t eat, we don’t sleep, we don’t get old, you are dead, and you are gonna do A LOT of walking.” – Morgan
[warning] SPOILERS AHEAD [/warning]
“Nowhere Man” takes us on a strange yet interesting journey full of unexpected twists and turns. We learn more about the Audrey/Mara (Emily Rose) split from “The Old Switcheroo, Part 1” and how it affects Audrey’s ability to help the “troubled.” There is also some “pancake” time with Nathan (Lucas Bryant) and Audrey, but it takes a back seat to the intricacy of the mysterious new trouble sweeping through town.
So now that Audrey has split from Mara, what does this mean? We learn Audrey isn’t immune to the troubles anymore but Mara still is. The question about Audrey and Mara being connected is resolved but something Mara says puzzles me. “We’re not connected; we never were.” Wait, what? How is that possible? Did I miss something? I thought Audrey and Mara shared a body but had different personalities. So what does that make Audrey? By all appearances, she’s alive and well. I think Nathan can attest to that even though he can’t feel her anymore. How sad. They make “pancakes” and he doesn’t feel it. I’m curious as to what the writers are developing for this story line.
Duke (Eric Balfour) is very disenchanted with Mara; however, Mara seems the opposite. I think Mara likes Duke. She finds his broodiness and cockiness alluring, as do I. With Dwight (Adam Copeland) out of town, the members of the Guard are itching to get their hands on Mara to end the troubles. Too bad they don’t know Mara can’t cure the troubles. Even her morphing their current trouble into something else doesn’t make things better. Duke continues to hide Mara on his boat but he is willing to give her up to save Audrey (whom the Guard captures, thinking she’s Mara). On a side note, where is Dwight? Is he in Cincinnati burying his sister? If you recall, the secret Gloria (Jayne Eastwood) kept from Dwight in “The Old Switcheroo, Part 2” was she knew where Dwight’s sister was living and that the family’s trouble was activated. Being a bullet magnet can be deadly.
This week’s unique trouble deals with people going missing, after seeing a blinding flash of light leaving only a shadow imprint of where they were last standing. As Nathan investigates the local farmers market, the last known location of the victims, he sees a surly man standing near a gazebo. Reggie (Dylan Taylor), a member of the Guard, feels it’s his duty to watch over people but I’m sure everyone would appreciate it if he doesn’t act like such a creepy stalker.
When Nathan starts to dig deeper into similar incidents of people disappearing, he vanishes, leaving behind his shadowy imprint on his office floor. Is it just me or is anyone else thinking about Peter Pan and his shadow? That’s all I could think of until Audrey makes her own inquiries after Nathan goes missing. Audrey runs into an amateur photographer (Laura Jean Chorostecki) at the farmers market who happens to have photos of everyone at the market that day. Is she related to Reggie? Watching people through a lens is just as creepy as standing around gawking at them with a furrowed brow. I believe the current trouble has something to do with this photographer and her camera.
Nathan may be gone physically but he’s still around. The thing is, no one else can see or hear him except Glenn (Dylan Trowbridge), a guy Nathan bumps into on the street, and, you guessed it, Mara. I’ll get to her in a minute. Interestingly, Glenn tells Nathan why no one can see him or Mara – because they’re “ghosts.” What? Of course, Nathan doesn’t believe that so he asks Glenn about Morgan (guest star Chris Masterson), the resident cemetery ghost guru who’s been dead the longest – two years.
Back to Mara, who can see and hear Nathan when no one else can. She’s still immune to the troubles so, of course, she is able to communicate with Nathan. Needless to say, Nathan can’t touch her – his hands sink right through her as with everything else. I don’t think Mara knows anything about these troubles in spite of creating them. That’s why she asks Duke for his grandfather’s journal. She needs Cliff’s Notes on all these troubles.
Nathan asks Morgan and Glenn to help him solve this trouble but it is Morgan who seems most reluctant. Why wouldn’t he want to come back to life? Seeing Glenn lying there dead, really dead, near his grave with two bloody wounds in his chest, Nathan is obviously perplexed. The bloody message on the tombstone, “EVEN GHOSTS CAN DIE,” makes it that much more chilling. In the previews for next week’s episode, we see the return of the Darkside Seekers from season four. I’m extremely curious about this obscure trouble but even more drawn to how Glenn, a ghost, ends up dead-dead. Could Morgan be the ghost killer? And how many of you were hoping the lady crying at the cemetery was actually Jennifer (Emma Lahana)?
